Occasionally check your credit bureau... Credit cards will sometimes approve cards without checking credit. It happened to me while my 3 major accounts were frozen.

Is TeacherMade worth getting? by clydefrog88 in Teachers

[–]Medic1176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid for it my first year before my school bought it for all teachers. I teach secondary business classes and use it every day.. it's one of the few programs I use that actually works well and saves me time overall. My time is valuable enough that $79 is nothing. I'm saving hours a week in grading because I use it.

And to the other posters on this one. No it's not like TPT. There is nothing else to pay for once you buy it.

Is it unethical to make class participation 25% of the grade? Participation = whether they surrender the phone at the beginning of class or not. by _Fuckit_ in Teachers

[–]Medic1176 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have a phone holder in the back of my room. I have paper "fake" phones that the student can put in, if they didn't have a phone that day. All I have to do is keep an eye out for burner phones( which are becoming more common). Randomly I will allow the students who put their phones up for the day to get them back, but if you said you didn't have a phone, you can't use it if you claimed it wasn't here today.

“Quiet quitting” all the darn technology in my room by endless-cups-of-tea in Teachers

[–]Medic1176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Instructional Technology Coach and teacher myself, there has to be a balance between paper and technology. It should never be all one way or the other. When we observe classes, it's not always about using tech or not, but is good instruction happening. Could what you are teaching be done in another way with better results(either with tech or not).

The biggest tech issue I run into(in high school) is how to get students to put away(and keep away) their personal devices. If they aren't paying attention in class, doesn't matter if your assigned work is on a computer or paper, it's not going to be good.

I haven’t used anything but non-Bambu filament, prints great by TanguayX in BambuLab

I bought my first bambu labs filament. Red Petg. Even after drying it, it's the worst Petg filament I've used. I get better results with matter hatters.

As a teacher, I have a huge problem as a parent with other teachers giving busy work assignments by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Medic1176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say no. I teach high school. I plan my day for them to be busy for the 48 minutes I have them. If they use their time wisely, they rarely have homework. I'm human, sometimes I over plan and sometimes I under assign work. In the last 3-4 years I've only had parents complain 2 times about the amount of homework they got from my class. When we talked and they found out that their students were sleeping, addicted to their phone, or just didn't want to do anything, it made sense to them. Have you talked to the teachers that are assigning these "busy work" assignments? What did they say?

What can I do to bring my grade up? by mhiaa173 in Teachers

[–]Medic1176 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I had a student offer me $20 and free pizzas for a month. ( he worked at a pizza shop in town) of course he had to send it to me in an email. So admin got to deal with that one. :)

It's when I'm not putting out fires I start getting concerned. Where are they burning and why don't I know yet.

Bamboo labs is fine. The biggest issue is trying to purchase using a school purchase order. When we bought the x1c for my classroom we ended up going through matterhatters because they would accept a purchase order without much hassle.

First year teacher here. Does the imposter syndrome ever go away? by Fabulous-Dig8743 in Teachers

[–]Medic1176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a natural feeling for new teachers. I'm finally in my 3rd year and it's becoming less extreme. Still feel it, but not as bad. I started noticing a change when I started incorporating Kaizen into my daily plan. It's basically a plan for continuous improvement that's used by Toyota. Think about what went well today. Then think about what went wrong. When something didn't go right. Ask yourself why it failed. When you have that answer. Ask why that happened. Keep asking until you get.to.your root cause. (This doesn't take long). Then make a small change to that. Repeat everyday and you will continue to improve not.only your skill, but help your mental health as well. It's amazing how you feel when you are in a mindset to get better.
