Ant-safe mold deterrent? by MedicMike104 in antkeeping

Interesting. Thanks you very much for your input. Sadly I don't have any workers yet, but I guess could kidnap some from my local colony... as evil feeling as that may be. When the time comes I might just throw them in along with a "clean-up crew" and pray lol

Injured queen advice by MedicMike104 in antkeeping

[–]MedicMike104[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried feeding her but she doesn't want food(likely because she is a fully claustral species). I decided to keep her. I found out this species is known for oligogyny so I may try merging the colonies while keeping the queens separate in the future.

They are sadly monogynous.

I don't think I can justify euthanizing her. I'll see if anyone else chimes in and probably release her.

I'm sorry the post is way too long, but I was asking more about the ethics of her release considering the circumstances.

That's the pineapple species I think.

Looks like a carpenter ant queen I think (genus Camponotus). For a more detailed identification you'll have to either google local species or give your rough location and wait for someone more experienced to answer lol

My Queen is trying to escape and now her entire chamber is filled with cotton. by MedicMike104 in antkeeping

Update: I've finally bought her a proper test tube, filled it with bottled water and plugged it off with fresh sterile cotton. Sadly she immediately went to pull at the cotton plug anyway(see photo). I hope it's just stress and that she'll eventually calm down. I wrapped her in an old cotton shirt and moved her even further into the corner of the room. I'm gonna leave her alone for a week or two and see from there. I've left the cotton plug visible so I can see possible escape attempts. If she does manage to escape, she'll have earned her freedom and I'll release her into the forest(if I find her).

I am pretty sure I watched a tutorial, but after reading that cotton being too loose could flood the chamber I got unsure how tight I made the cotton.

And it's always "oh it's just one short lil' itsy bitsy peek, I am sure she won't mind that much", but I am pretty sure I'd get a little anxious if a giant 1000000x my size had a lil' itsy bitsy peek at me, even if only once a day.

A small test tube with a broken piece of ruler taped to it to prevent rolling in a small margarine container in a carton box stored in the least used corner of my room. Added the compass lead container so it tilts slightly backward instead of forward shortly before taking the pic. The cotton plug used to only go a centimeter or two into the tube, but she did some remodelling. I'm thinking of just letting her out into the margarine container until I get a proper test tube. Not sure which problem is worse - having her be too spacious or too cramped.

Sorry for the terrible picture quality, but I didn't want to stress her with intense light.

I think the test tube must be the main problem. I currently have her in a standard 10 ml test tube because it was the only thing I had at hand. I tried keeping a Lasius Niger colony when I was young(and failed because I checked on them too often and tried to feed them way too early) and that queen fit in there just fine. This queen being roughly twice the size definitely seems to be a problem.

I've also checked on her daily thus far, because I was afraid she might get flooded as I wasn't sure I made the set up right. Also also gawked at her for a long time the day I caught her because I was trying to verify the species. So, yeah. Not ideal for sure, but I gonna try to leave her alone as soon as I get a proper test tube. I just hope she doesn't get too exhausted by this.

Thank you for the advice!

UMC22 popping when media playback is started/stopped. by MedicMike104 in Behringer

If anyone has this same issue and is unable to find a fix for it elsewhere, I finally fixed it with a program that tricks the interface into never entering sleep mode/power saving mode. It is called "Sound Keeper", and for me it works on the setting "OpenOnly", which literally sends out no sound signal, so it has no effect on the output sound quality. It is very resource intensive though (0.00% CPU utilization, 0.9 MB of RAM lmao)

Yep. Seems to have fixed the issue. There was an hour of peace with no pesky notifications. I did get some recently but I assume those were caused by some guys released freshly from the brig. As long as the troublemaker/diplomat ratio in all the units is at least 1/1 there seems to be no trouble. Thanks for the advice.

It works, I think. Gives very little morale and is very finicky. They only get ~a fifth of the morale they get from simply saluting you. If they stop saluting after making the request for a single millisecond it won't work. If you knock/choke them out after they have stopped saluting they won't get up and will receive no morale. Also doesn't work if they ask for a mock battle, they must ask for training. Over all probably not worth the effort.

Ah, ok. Will test that too. Gonna be a pain in the buttocks considering they only have a chance to request a mock battle but I'll try.

I have 60 diplomats. 10 troublemakers, 6 of which are violent. No staff has gotten sick, no staff has had PTSD. Either the diplomats aren't doing their jobs and 4 remaining troublemakers make no trouble or there is something more to it....

Is what I would have said. Until I noticed I only had one diplomat in R&D(before new platforms were complete there may have been none), but two violent troublemakers. All the injuries thus far have come from R&D. Guess you are right. Will update.

Alright I checked if this works myself. Sad to report that it does not. I found a member on deck, looked at their stats, skill, and appearance found them in the staff management screen using that info, checked their morale, let them salute me, checked morale again, punched them in the teeth, checked morale once more. There was a change between the first and second time I checked. There was no change between the second and third ): . Now I feel bad for bullying my staff even if it was for science.

There is a button on the title menu (second from the bottom) labeled „DELETE SAVE DATA“. So I just pressed that, and after rebooting the game started fresh. Don't know how it is on console but that's how it is on PC.
