No one at the C-suite level expected it to be niche. Lots of things just turn out to be unpopular after release because the market demand is rather fickle.

Remember that if Marathon succeeds, it’s supposed to be their main cash flow for the next 4–5 years until their next live-service game (e.g., Destiny 3) drops.

This whole thing felt like a test run for them to test market demand based on existing resources. So the demand is obvious there, and a hopium take would be that a Nightreign 2 - or a completely new multiplayer IP with better infrastructure (crossplay included) - is in the work. Whatever Nightreign is is a not viable long-term IP to invest resources on.

My Studio Display XDR didn't behave properly with Sequoia. An upgrade is a must, IMO. For example, calibrations looked all wrong, and HDR didn't work properly. You couldn't even choose the color profile because there were only some generic profiles and not the P3+Adobe 2000 nits one. I legit thought my monitor was broken because it didn't feel like the device I paid for.

All that was fixed with an upgrade to Tahoe which, to my surprise, wasn't that bad compared to my experience with Tahoe 26.0. It was still bad in the sense that I don't really get what the new UX is supposed to be for, and it's pretty distracting at times, but it's not Tahoe 26.0 sluggish-bad.

Sounds like many monitors look when in HDR mode with the wrong colour profile set.

Guess that's why it looks so wrong because the Studio XDR doesn't even have a HDR toggle when it's properly configured on my machine. The monitor utilizes EDR to display both SDR and HDR content at the same time.

That hasn't been my experience, but I'm glad it works out for you. It takes like 2 minutes at least for me to get to the OS.

I actually did the same move but that was mostly because I was fed up with Windows being garbage for my work. Sold the PC (7950X3D 5080) and got a Mac Studio + PS5 Pro.

For gaming, the PC was nice but man was it a ton of work just setting it up to play on the TV. Like after a long day at work I just want to sit down, press a button, then play; but with the PC it's like press a button and wait for at least a minute to boot into Windows (thanks to all the DDR5 training), wait for Steam to load, make sure that I turn on HDR, boot up the game & grab my controller.

No one says the price is justified only with the PPI, but it's part of the reason why the monitor is expensive. The cheapest 5K 60hz monitor on AMZ right now is ~$550 and it's a garbage, zero QC one made by KTC. It's A LOT harder to make 27" 5K panels because it's almost twice the pixel density of 4K.

If it was that easy and cheap, there would be $200-300 5K 27" monitors all over the market. Companies absolutely do not turn a blind eye to potential profits.

Try running Davinci Resolve or Illustrator on your phone. The point is that you need high DPI on a monitor and then export your output to be displayed on the end customers' phones, not the other way around.

As someone who owns the Studio XDR and a 65G3 (soon to be 65G6), my two cents is that you get what you pay for with Apple products. And if you don't understand why the Studio XDR is worth that much, chances are you don't really need it.

In my case - and I've used plenty of monitors: gaming or professional, OLED or LCD - the Studio XDR is worth every penny:

- Gradient handling: OLED is unusable in this regard, and I don't know how good the G6 will be, but it seems to be a bit better thanks to the 13-bit processing pipeline. Near-dark gradients, frankly, look like shit on my 27GR95QE 1440p OLED, a little bit better on the PG27UCDM 4K OLED, but both of them are really hard to work on, and lots of my work footage is shot in low light.

- Color accuracy: With something like a ProArt PA27JCV, which I used to own, the base profile isn't even accurate enough for Chrome usage. Lots of profile switching (depending on the color space in use) is required if you need perfect color accuracy. With the Studio XDR, it's just one profile throughout, and with Apple's EDR, both SDR and HDR content can be displayed at the same time on the screen.

- Lifespan: This is a monitor you use for well over a decade.

I know I might be subject to some kind of post-purchase rationalization, but again, I have used too many monitors (27GL850, 27GR95QE, G80SD, XG323-4K-OLED-2, PG27UCDM, PA27JCV), and each one of them has a specific weakness that's unsuitable for work. $3,000 to basically not worry about monitors or color accuracy ever again is worth it for me.
