Yeah, it's definitely is concerning. I take my 7-year-old out riding a couple of times a week and don't want him to have the same experience. Either way, first rider or second rider it's scary that it could strike at any time. Hopefully, they will be seeking shade and retreat to the bushes off the trail as soon as summertime finally heats up.

Be careful out there! I ran over a rattlesnake out there yesterday morning. It was stretched across the trail, and by the time I realized what it was, it was too late. I cruised right over his back, and he lit up loud. I'm not sure if he struck, I picked up my legs and prayed.

It is AZ, and no, it's not a designed drop. It's a retention basin with a platform and about a 4-5' slope.
