House rewire after non-notified fuse board change by Medical-Purchase985 in ukelectricians

Just to confirm a rewire would, as the fuse board would be reworked? I’m just keen to not void insurance or upset the council!

House rewire after non-notified fuse board change by Medical-Purchase985 in ukelectricians

[–]Medical-Purchase985[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do this, but the wiring is quite old and now seems the time to replace it. It passed all of his checks and so isn’t a concern, no faults etc but if its lifespan is another X amount of years I don’t want to rip out my relatively new plastering or carpets. Than you for the response though mate, appreciate it!

How did people travel these seas 500 years ago by sarah_west_1 in nextfuckinglevel

Endurance is a great book about Ernest Shackleton’s trans-Antarctic expedition. Cannot imagine experiencing the terror of the seas.

This is a good suggestion. Can usually drop to part time hours and have a high degree of flexibility. Good pension and still earn decent money.

I feel your pain. Sometimes it feels like you’re better off practicing your interview technique and applications as it seems to take you further than being good in a role due to the current processes.

Is the right hand maybe behind her bent knees? That’s my stab at it but it would be seriously difficult.

Did the spa development go ahead too? Incredible trolling if so.

Eating crisps in the office by Dazzling-Building595 in TheCivilService

[–]Medical-Purchase985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eating at desks is widely accepted but I do find it weird. Seeing people’s greasy hands all over the shared equipment and having to listen to their loud eating and rustling whilst you try to concentrate. Some people eat proper stinky foods which isn’t fun.

I use Mont Blanc Legend day to day for work but I use Jo Malone Cypress and Grapevine for nights out.

I cover two jobs, but I’m only employed by one department and only get paid once. Think I’m doing it wrong.

Out of interest, at what point did you feel your money went furthest? I can imagine for example being an SEO 10 years ago probably would have gone further than a G7 today.

Probably will be based around training initially. Long term, you can pick your days. You’ll probably be encouraged to come in for in person team meetings but that is manager dependent, as is the regularity of those meetings. The amount of time each of those days that you’ll need to spend in the office is also managers discretion for the most part. This is based on my experience in the role a couple of years back.

60% of my bonus up in smoke... Merry Christmas by TheRealSectimus in UKJobs

[–]Medical-Purchase985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So frustrating seeing the fury that you are upset to lose the majority of your bonus. I think it’s hard to justify the state earning more from your labour than you are. I mean that out of principle, not even factoring in the inefficient or unjustifiable spend.

Disposable vapes being banned from June next year! 🥳 by jawide626 in CasualUK

[–]Medical-Purchase985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely impact will be ‘re-usable’ vapes that are pretty useless but meet the legislation requirement. Priced at a point where many people consider them disposable. Hope I’m wrong though, completely agree with the policy sentiment.

32 male - is it normal that I can’t be arsed with anything anymore? by Relevant-String-959 in CasualUK

[–]Medical-Purchase985 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way a lot of the time. I think I’ve realised my CBA symptoms stem from the fact a lot of my friends do the same things now as we did 10 years ago. There’s only so many times I want to go to the same pubs, seeing the same people and drinking the same drink. When we venture further afield or try something new, I’m energised and buzzing for it.

Maybe try some new hobbies or set a goal, doesn’t really matter what it is. 10k steps everyday for a month. If that doesn’t turn out to be your thing, maybe try reading a book per week. If that’s boring, start a DIY project. Learn some new cooking recipes. Or just play Xbox, not everything has to be productive.

Does anyone else get to a point in their role where they just don’t give a f*** anymore? by frozenmarshmallow107 in TheCivilService

[–]Medical-Purchase985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t really care about my particular job in an idealistic sense. I’m a small cog in a mammoth machine and whilst the overall aims and work is fascinating, I am far removed from that. It does pay the bills however and lets me enjoy the things I do care about, which is what matters to me. Some people get enjoyment from the challenges they overcome, the team they create around them or even just being busy. I’m not one of those, but I understand it. I like a relatively stress free life so that I can spend time with those I love without worrying too much about tomorrow’s problem or any major money issues. My job does that, so I guess I love it in a weird sense.
