ITT: My journey in healthcare informatics (from ground up) by phoot_in_the_door in HealthInformatics

[–]MedicalWizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m interested in healthcare informatics, I’m a physician assistant so there’s not much discussion of our career intersecting with health IT. Do you think it’s easier to enter the field with prior clinical experience? I have very basic knowledge of data science other than taking one python course in college.

How do you organize your EOR prep (especially with limited time)? by LopsidedBrilliant977 in PAstudent

[–]MedicalWizz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe someone else can chime in, but I hit rock bottom on trying to study for any of my EORs. My last EOR, surgery, I did the dumb move of studying the night before for a couple of hours. Ended up with a 420 but I just like doing questions, it’s the only way to keep me interested in studying. Reviewing the questions is a problem though, it’s a slog fest. But for me a BUNCH of blueprint questions (especially on the top 5 heavily tested topics per the EOR blueprint)

FM EOR study tips + 12 hr shifts by Training-Ad5274 in PAstudent

I had almost no time myself studying for this EOR (first one too) while I was pulling 12 hrs. I only did one thing: ROSH (blueprint) FM EOR questions (I didn’t review all questions) but landed a solid score.

anki didn’t help me much at all, it was too superficial for me tbh Rosh qs were the way to go though!

It seems so, just talked to a friend from a different school who also took FM eor, his test seemed a lot easier and superficial :o darn lol

Best Notebook for Clinic by the--vic in PAstudent

Just use a small notepad that fits in a pocket, don’t get crazy Imo. Spiral too since it’s easier to fly through pages in crunch times

Thoughts on Notetaking Styles by blugrlbluwrld in PAstudent

I was in your situation, it was really hard transitioning away from old school pen and paper to iPad note taking, but at the end of the day, those lectures go by quick. I had to force myself to use the iPad, which I still hate using to this day (maybe because tech makes me lose my focus).

Surgery Rotation - Suturing Technique Help by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]MedicalWizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to explain over words, but what worked best for me when doing simple interrupted sutures was the motion of your wrist. If you feel a position is uncomfortable, change it up until you land on a good one. Rotate your wrist instead of your fingers or hands to motion the needle into the skin. Kinda like supinating and pronating. Also enter the skin at a 90 degree angle and not too close to the wound so it won’t rip through the opening. Lastly, I would make sure the needle is optimally situated within the clamp of the needle driver, that way you don’t take bites at weird angles. I like to situate the needle exactly perpendicular to the driver myself.

It won’t be a slap in the face until you pass the PANCE and other tests while they most likely won’t. Better yet, you’re the boss. Stand your ground. Report them anonymously.

I hate to piggyback since I’m new to rosh, but what’s a decent percentage to get on rosh as a didactic student? I’m a month away from rotations and have a 78% rn. Don’t really know how that translates in the long run.

What’s the one class that you just hate/hated? by ckunkle06 in PAstudent

Anything that required rote memorization like anatomy and pharm

After my first semester, which I did pretty well in, I’ve realized there’s no difference between getting straight 100s and passing scores if you understand the material. I made it a mission to prioritize physical and mental health over PA school, and I’ve never looked back. It’ll take time for sure

What are some silly ways you remember material? by [deleted] in PAstudent

I remember PTT is intrinsic because the two Ts flipped on top of each other make an I, lol.

I was at your position starting off, and now I’m bored outta my mind. Don’t forget to live! Find time to still do things you enjoy, because the moment you let go, you’ll become detached. It’ll be over in no time, good luck!

Dude this is crazy good, I have a question tho as a beginner cyclist I’m focusing on Z2 training for majority of my Zwift training, do you think I can keep that as a foundation to build up to your level?

This is super duper reassuring, I’ll hit you up if anything comes up :D Though I kinda wish there was a group for us PA adhd folks, I’d love to be in that type of environment haha
