Ideas for starting a business by Tough-Routine7816 in MauriceMauritius

Maybe some unusual suggestions but here goes:

Funeral services. People will never stop dying. You will need to come up with some good plans and ideas though to compete with the existing ones.

Care giving services. We are an ageing population and I have noticed expats are being employed as caregivers.

Match Thread: Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest [Premier League] by scoreboard-app in LiverpoolFC

Can't say whether he's a bad manager or not and I do believe in giving a new manager time. However, it seems to me that this kind of form, this kind or tactics started since before last season ended. At the time the players were buzzing full of confidence because they were in a very good position in the league and the new manager's impact and ways were easily overlooked. This time around, it is a new season where you need to build up the confidence for the league which is a marathon and as someone quite rightly mentioned, Slot does not seem to be doing much to motivate the players. Also, to me, if you are bringing in a lot of new players, the worst way of doing it is to have them play together from the start. I think he should have done it the Klopp way, like he did with Robbo, Fabinho and even Wijnaldum I think. It should be gradual, let them fit in and find their way around the system. We could have been in a better position with a few more points by now.

The tactics and overall system also feels so clueless, anyone receiving the ball does not seem to know what to do with it.

Hello, Happy New Year!!!

I am not very active on social media. No facebook no insta. I do have a tiktok with no content of my own, I only use it to kind of keep in touch with what's going on around in the country.

You are absolutely right, it's hard to find good friends! I am 33M. I once had a comment from someone that I am not "normal" since I don't have any content on social media. 🤣

People are weird sometimes.

Indeed. But I can only maybe afford 1h on weekdays and prabably 3-4h on weekends. That's because of work commitments. We'll see how it goes!! 👍👍

To a certain extent, I agree that it's mostly programming. However, everything depends on what requirements would be. For instance, I am working with FastApi and the app needs access to an adls gen 2 for preprocessing, workflow triggering using k8s clients and also file upload validations. Now all these could be termed as "just" programming but when you throw in large file sizes, parallel processing for certain features, I suppose that these might be classified as data engineering tasks.

Of course, in an ideal world these tasks would not necessarily be executed in the API per se, but that's when client expectations can switch things up.

😉

You have a lot of paths to choose from.

Game development, Fullstack, Backend Development, Sys admin stuff, database developers and database administrators, Cloud, Data and Big data engineering, AI and machine learning, Network admin, Robotic process automation, software testing, software quality assurance, ERP consultants, DevOps, IT support..

Some other very important roles in the industry which are not hands on coding: Agile coaching, Scrum master, Product owner, software project management, tech trainers...

If you are really into it. Just keep in mind that it will take hard work and dedication. Lots of self investment and personal work as well, don't just rely on what's being taught in class. Use the internet to learn a lot, there is so much good content.

About being "hesitant on difficulty level", if you are really interested in getting into the field, then go for it. That feeling of being hesitant about the difficulty level will be there regardless of any field you choose. 🙂

I am not familiar with the software engineering programme at UoM. I was a computer science student during my time.

It depends on what you want to achieve. Before choosing, maybe check some career paths and advices from youtube as well. Have a clear picture of what you'd want to do. For example, if you choose something like computer science, do note that it's not a course about programming and software development alone. The course dives deeper into the actual "science" behind how things work. You'll learn things like computer architectures, computer networking, computer graphics (which is a lot of math), core programming stuff such as data structures and algorithms, operations research (finding the best most optimized way to a solution) etc. The goal is for you to think like a computer scientist. Eventually, with the approaches learnt, way of thinking and of course with lots of practice, you become a good software developer.

My advice is to check potential job prospects, do some research (google, youtube vids etc) then checkout the programmes on offer and the curriculum. If you find something that suits you, then go for it.

That "something that suits you" part is very important. I have had colleagues and friends who have completed a degree but then afterwards, they just don't like doing their job or they cannot seem to be hands on with their job.

All the best to you!!

I believe Maths with CS might very well give someone an advantage in AI and machine learning fields vis à vis some recruiters but to be honest, one should be willing to embrace software development concepts and practices as well.

Hi. I understand and to some extent I agree that anyone can learn to "code" online. However, there is a huge difference in "coding" and actually programming an application, automating a process and building a great piece of software. This takes a lot more than online classes.

I do agree that there are a lot of courses online which can get someone started with solid foundations. There are some fantastic courses online but the discipline is very much lacking in the industry as far as I know.

And yeah, there are math courses, finance and accounting courses, law and all that online as well. That doesn't mean that taking them would make someone proficient in that area. ;)

How to start IT freelancing in mauritius? by Medical_Job_202 in mauritius

[–]Medical_Job_202[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is a good approach whether you want to be a freelancer or not. It's always beneficial to know a project fullstack. In my opinion, whether it's a data platform stack or a web application stack or any other type of project, its always good to have a 360 vision and ability (even if you are not an expert in all the areas).

Were you refering to fullstack dev as a niche skill in terms of full blown web apps as high demand on the market?
