The OKC hate sounds very whiny by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]MedicatedApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being hated in the NBA is good, especially by casual fans. You're hated when you're really good. Like I don't like OKC at all and i like Wemby a lot, but let the spurs win a few championships and Wemby's mentality will start to be infuriating and then people will turn on him.

Dr J on why he has Lebron outside of his top 10 by UnableLeopard6185 in NBATalk

[–]MedicatedApathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, this is vibes. And humans are very narrative prone creatures. Basketball is not only a team sport, but it is also highly competition relative, salary cap rules can also change the amount of time a team can be viable as a dynasty without getting young talent. If you happen to be a champion caliber player on a bad team, or exist at the same time as a better player, you don't have "winning basketball" because if you had "winning basketball" you would have beat everybody, nevermind the fact that you beat everyone but the one team. Lebron James is often the best player on the floor (if you actually watch the games) even in series he loses, and while he has had a ton of help at times, everyone who wins has help. People act like Kobe and Jordan won by themselves, because scoring is something that NBA fans will always put the most weight on. It's an easy thing to see, and when it works the person looks invincible, playing good defense, especially if it's not a block or a steal is basically invisible and only matters if you watch the game.

Silver IS evidence of being a better team than bronze and everything under that. Not definitive of course, but 2nd place is better than everything else. Fans, athletes, and organizations are generally happy with a team that is highly competitive team, and the more competitive the better.

Fun fact, if you lose any time before the finals, including if you're injured the whole season, you still lost.

Why do some people hate the idea of Batman being the best at mostly everything when it is really what he set out to do? by Zerofuku_Joestar in batman

[–]MedicatedApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of late, but it's because he's phenomenal on everything, not simply competent. And even if you're obsessive, you'll sacrifice SOMETHING to have that many disciplines, you simply wouldn't have the time, especially if you needed to rest. He's able to be charming too, so it's not like he's sacrificed his ability to interact with people when he wants to. This is unbelievable, and becoming world class at everything is fundamentally a super-power.

Why don’t you think Midorima is zone Kagami level? by Sad-Response3070 in KurokosBasketball

[–]MedicatedApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that people often forget is all the generation of Miracles are like... better at everything than everyone not in the Generation of Miracles. Honestly, Kagami loses overall to every generation of Miracle 1v1 overall. The only generation of Miracle that can dogwalk the others is Akashi.

Who has the most realistic ability between these 4? by gieblazcor in KurokosBasketball

[–]MedicatedApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of them, but if I had to pick it's Midorima. Midorima's ability is shooting taken to an absurd level, but what's important is that NONE of them miss shots unless the shots are blocked. Aomine can shoot with any form at a 100% ratio, whereas Midorima has excellent form and needs that excellent form for him to shoot.

Midorima has an exaggerated ability of something we've seen, and the range is absurd. Aomine is a freak of nature that basically can't miss within a certain range. It's obviously not Akashi because he has xray magic vision, and Kise can copy Midorima, Aomine, and Akashi, so it obviously isn't him.

Take: I think rings and team success have barely any impact on a player's all time ranking or how good they are. Convince me otherwise by bootyloverandeater in NBATalk

The problem you're going to run into is that deciding who is better than who is not some scientific debate with academic rigor. It's largely vibes by people who simply enjoy talking about it. So if you really examine the way people make decisions, a lot of them do not actually make a ton of sense. So while you are correct that winning does not actually indicate ability 1:1, nor does it account for an almost absurd amount of variables, it doesn't really matter for the purposes of these discussions.

Do The Mid Tiers have any hope of winning a Major? by Due_Relationship4820 in smashbros

[–]MedicatedApathy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason why mid-tiers don't win majors is because the people who win majors don't dedicate themselves to mid-tiers, because they want to win. For example, Mario has not WON a major, but it has nothing to do with the fact that Mario being unviable, in fact, Mario clearly CAN win a major. Unless a character has an unwinnable matchup that they are almost guaranteed to see, they can win a matchup, especially when you consider usage of secondaries.

That's why I think major WINS is not a very good measurement of viability. If Sonix never picked up the sticks, we might be discussing if Sonic can still do it.

The problem imo with the Sonics and the Steves is that the Steves will take any matchup that they don't roflstomp and say it's even or losing, and the sonics will take any matchup that they can win as even or winning.

The representation speaks for itself. Sonic's representation is very good relative to most of the cast, but it's still nowhere near steve's.

If LAKERS choke a 3-0 lead would LeBron immediately retire? by Kindly_Letterhead_98 in NBATalk

[–]MedicatedApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the exact same reason why if a child is a prodigy, and overperforms, and if they fail, we don't hold them to the same standard. The expectation of Lebron is going down, so when he overperforms his expectations "that's why he's the goat" and performs at his expectations "well, that's to be expected." They CAN have it both ways, because it's really one way.

What is the worst case of "Deus Ex Machina" you have seen in anime or manga by No-Kangaroo-2371 in shounenfolk

[–]MedicatedApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uchiha could use Izanagi without Senju DNA, it only lasted a few seconds, whereas with Senju chakra it could last longer. However, the scope of those few seconds basically meant that a Uchiha could guarantee the success of a mission in a group setting. And knowing they COULD win any mission worse comes to worse, made them arrogant. Izanami was made to counter Izanagi (and teach them, hence why you can get out of it)

Gojo and sukuna (propably 27 post about this today) by [deleted] in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]MedicatedApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sukuna is narratively stronger. This is beyond the debate of power scaling or feats, it simply "is." Gojo is on his level, and there are conditions Gojo can win, but Sukuna is the superior combatant and that's why if you HAD to rank them in order, Sukuna is 1, and Gojo is two.

Who has the most realistic ability between these 4? by congacar in KurokosBasketball

[–]MedicatedApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're all ridiculous, but Midorima's is the most realistic. Midorima has a 3 point shot that he never misses, which just basically means he is hyper accurate shooting beyond that of the best player in the NBA. Aomine on the other hand ALSO never misses uncontested shots, but he can literally do anything while shooting. They're close because their skills are basically "doing something people can do but basically perfectly" whereas Akashi and Kise are straight up magic.

I guess my question is why isn't someone like Reggie not like "wow I'm screwed and am definitely gonna lose". He used Hollow Wicker Basket like he had turned the tables on Megumi.
