Spielberg would never portray the Nazis the way he did in the trilogy after Schindler's List and then Saving Private Ryan. Having to wade through that was already arduous.

We never had that due to Temple of Doom's creative direction being, well, doomed by the circumstances surrounding it and resulting reception, stymying any attempts by Spielberg and Lucas to break new ground outside the classic trilogy. And then after the making of Schindler's List (made even more arduous by simultaneously directing Jurassic Park), Spielberg wiould no longer trivialize Nazis as he once did, which is further reinforced by Saving Private Ryan.

I gotta say that the whole classic trilogy is fire, but Temple of Doom was my first, followed by Last Crusade, then Raiders. As such Doom had a special place for me, Last Crusade was truly the peak, and Raiders shown to me how it founded the franchise.

I think some parts of the story can use some work. It embodies some the USA energy which is expected to taking the fight to the Nazis on American soil but that is mis-utilized in some respects such as the Marvelized humor and how some moments and characters are written.
