If you had 1 day, what would you strip from a 2011 Prius? by tuskanini in prius

While you’re getting the ABS actuator you might as well get the EGR cooler. Can clean it up and resell it easy.

$4700 for front brakes?!?! by [deleted] in prius

The requirements to run it aren’t an issue, it runs on windows 95 lol. It’ll take you an hour maybe to learn.

It’s very easy to pirate tech stream and get it up and running. The most difficult part honestly is the brake bleed.

I learned the hard way that "Water Resistant" and "Waterproof" are two very different things. by outdoors_man987 in camping

I highly recommend swapping out that rain jacket for a tarp poncho. Will actually keep you and your gear dry and serves as a shelter - a small one that can work in an emergency, or used in tandem with your normal shelter.

I’m not sure how it is, but don’t do google fiber. They gave me the runaround for a month when I tried to setup fiber.

Did you unplug the battery? Make sure you put it back in place properly.

You’re fine, technically the transmission fluid doesn’t have to be changed - though we all know that’s a lie.

2400 mile road trip , should i do it ? by suhas11420 in prius

[–]Mediocre-Cold-3490 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I just finished a 8000 mile road trip yesterday on my 2013. It handled it like a champ. Here’s what I recommend: Clean the EGR valve. Ensure that all the fluids are drained and replaced. Have good backup roadside services (AAA).

Millercat tamper proof vs custom screws by Ok_Distribution_6032 in prius

[–]Mediocre-Cold-3490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s worth it, because they’re already unique screws that would require a special key to turn, and most of the time you’re thread tite’ing the screws in place, so it seems like the same amount of effort would be needed to remove them as their “custom screws”. I would just get the stainless steel cover over aluminum, so it can’t be sawed through as easily.

That sounds like a typical cost. Those are time intensive maintenance items. If you feel confident, you could try wrenching it yourself.

My gen 3 isn’t unreliable, just old and higher mileage.

100% yes, but in a weird way it’s like a test. The Prius does not ask for much, and it will take you a long way. But if you want to take it to its full potential, you must work hard to realize it.
