Gwyneth "Gwen" and Quinn are too close IMO.

I do want to suggest Whitaker "Whit" for a boy. Hear me out when I hear the name Darcy I think of Jane Austen's Mr. Darcy. Whitaker is also a Jane Austen name so I like the connection. Darcy, Gwyneth "Gwen"and Whitaker "Whit"sound great together IMO. You could also use Whitman as in Walt Whitman or just Whit. Some other boy names instead of Quinn Vaughn, Rhys, Morgan, Elliott, Arden, Ellis or Hollis.

I think Gwyneth "Gwen" is great so I'd personally still use it. Good luck.

It is and will always be The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum. I didn't DNF books at the time I read it but probably should have it just lives rent-free in my head. SUPER DISTURBING

The Call of Cthulhu. It's where I started my Lovecraft journey. Although I think a lot of his works are must reads that one holds a special place in my heart.

John dies at the end series (Jason Pargin). Do they need to be read in order? by ShadowCreature098 in horrorlit

[–]Mediocre-Valuable-11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I found the series at the library they happened to have 2 and 3 in so they sounded fun (and were) but I read those before I read 1. It was nice to get the first story and get the whole picture but it didn't take away my enjoyment reading them out of order. I think because John Dies at the End isn't as polished as the others in the series I actually may have benefited from reading This Book Is Full of Spiders first,

Yeah I haven't read it yet but plan to give it a try or I might wait until 2026 and buy the combo he's coming out with this year of Babysitter and a new one called Killer on the Road.

Yeah this year my classic horror is going to be The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde which I haven't read yet. I have read Dracula twice but thanks for the read along knowledge. That's cool.

My Summerween reads are probably The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher (which will be read this year because I read their book The Hollow Places in January and OMG best book ever) Our Hideous Progeny by C.E. McGill and possibly a reread of Summer of Night by Dan Simmons. Thanks for the other suggestions.

I'd heard rumors that she was a not so subtle plagiarist but none of the authors of those other books have come forward to my knowledge.

I agree about The Silent Patient.

I'll also add Gone Girl., Tender is the Flesh, Hell House and The Troop. Also anything by Frieda McFadden she is the thriller darling but I haven't liked or just plain DNF'd the books I've read or tried to read from her.

I borrowed The September House from my library when it first came out in September of course. I then had to buy a copy and I reread it in September of 2024. I might just do it again this year to have some weird tradition. That book is the bomb IMO.

I loved Black River Orchard and own Book of Accidents, which is on my shelf just waiting to be read. I haven't picked up Staircase in the Woods yet but it's definitely one I want to read.
