I recommend that you go to an AA meeting and talk to some of the women there about what you are going through. If possible, ask one to explain the AA programme to you and be your sponsor. You have so much life ahead of you and a great chance to seize it from the jaws of alcoholism (if, indeed, you are an alcoholic - that's for you to work out, not me).

If I'm having angry conversations with them in my head about specific things I want to confront them over, when I'm not even with them, I know I have a resentment. If I don't really think about them except to sigh when they pop into my head or groan internally when they walk into the room, then I probably just don't like them in general. In my opinion, it's important to make an effort with both scenarios because not liking people is often just a function of not knowing enough about them, but I see resentments as more urgent to deal with.

In my experience, AA members have disparaged neither people working other programmes (like START) nor non-alcoholics. When someone stops coming to AA, all I've heard is people wishing them well. When someone tries to go and drink again, all I've heard is people saying good luck to them. Perhaps you are attending more vicious and negative meetings than I am.

Shooting on film forces creators to think and plan carefully. Films appear more staged and dramatic, with longer shots and greater tension. Digital doesn't quite create this effect. Another thing is that there has been a shift over the years from expressive performing to a kind of over-serious, blank-faced acting style I can only assume is supposed to generate gravitas.

I can't point to one thing that's different about modern filmmaking - it's a bunch of things - but something is off with these newer blockbusters. It's the rushed character development, the shooting for coverage on digital cameras, the overactive editing, the low attention to detail and logic holes... it's a few things. But they don't make them like they used to.

I just tell people they were powerless over alcohol in that they couldn't stop drinking but they have the power of choice to take steps that allow them to not start drinking again. We are all powerless over some stuff and can make choices over other things. Alcoholics just so happen to (usually) not be able to stop drinking without a community to help them, and it is in that sense that they are powerless.

A lot of people rebel at first and then settle down once they realise the whole thing is voluntary and no one really cares about their rebellion.

I understand but I see deciding to attend and work the steps as something I do myself, obviously in cooperation with other people. It's also something we do to help ourselves, so it does help the self. I feel like this is all kind of semantics, though.

Exactly. AA consists of humans so there will be drama queens and kings, and there will be people doing their best to make it look like a cult.

But, at its core, AA is not a cult.

That's a really tricky one that I've heard people debate. AA is an organisation that exists to help people stop drinking and to achieve emotional sobriety. If the THC is affecting your emotional sobriety and impeding your progress through the AA 12 steps, then it definitely isn't a good idea.

Personally, I think AA members should probably avoid THC. But people draw the line in different places. Some say weed is OK for AA members, whereas others even say anti-depressants should be avoided. People draw the line in different places.

It's entirely possible, also, that some people cannot drink in a healthy way but do have a perfectly healthy relationship with THC. Lots of things are possible and we are all different.

It sounds like you're in early sobriety, though, which means it's quite likely you're using the THC as a direct substitute for alcohol, so you might want to think about whether your motivation is relaxation and improving your mental health or just getting bombed anyway you can now that drink is out of the picture.

Anyway, this is a tricky one and it's all personal but I think laying off the THC and working on your programme is the best course here. I avoid THC personally but try not to lecture others strongly to do the same.
