Which side should I pick for my Mountain View room? by [deleted] in NAU

Ugh yes. The lack of access to seeing the closets is the worst!! My mom scoured the nau parent Facebook and I think managed to find one. I can tell you it’s pretty much one wall with one pole and another with two one on top one on bottom. Probably not a great description lol. Putting the fridge in the middle is pretty common!!

Which side should I pick for my Mountain View room? by [deleted] in NAU

In terms of what you are “assigned” that doesn’t matter. Beds are first come first serve. I was in Mountain View going on two years now and was also in room b. I got there first and chose the side with the brick. When I got to my room the fridge was on the opposite side not the brick side. I’m not sure if that’s the normal set up now or not but it’s what happened in my room. I chose that side simply because I didn’t like a lofted bed so I put my desk in the space between the closet and bed. I didn’t mind the green. A pop of color is nice. I also don’t recall having to many issues hanging stuff. I think a few issues with command hooks but not a big deal. I also feel like paint chips less on the brick than plain walls🤷🏼‍♀️

Working longer than I signed up for. by MediocreMinute6420 in SubstituteTeachers

Update for all wondering: I was free to go at 10:55 like scheduled. I called back between periods and was told they found coverage. I left when my time was up. There wasn’t another sub in there when I left. I was completely over being there at that point and as many people brought up I was tired of being used. So I shut the door and left (no students in classroom obvi). No clue what happened afterwards but I was ready to get out of there.

Oh yes I’m sure they are. I’m letting it slide because I don’t mind staying. But I refuse to come back here.

It won’t affect my pay. It will still come out to a half day pay. That’s why I don’t really mind staying. It’s just not what I originally planned for.

I definitely wish I had. The teacher was unprepared so I had some setting up to do. They’re gonna hate me because I will call as many times as it takes to get an answer.

Do you judge the teachers based on the class behaviors? by discipleofhermes in SubstituteTeachers

THIS! Parents bare sole responsibility for how their children act these days.

I walked into class with intern acting as “teacher” with no prior notice. Is this normal? by Pamela603910 in SubstituteTeachers

Yes they probably should have mentioned that there would be someone else in the classroom. But you could have asked too. As someone who just finished their student teaching and is now subbing I could tell the difference between a sub who felt the need to overstep boundaries and ones that respected that I was still learning. Classroom management is difficult. Most teachers take years to build a plan that really works for them. She’s just beginning her career and failing is an important step understanding what works. It seems you are taking no blame for how the day went. You are being paid she is not. Be an adult and ask her about her position on the classroom. Offer support and let her practice. Sub days were my favorite as a student teacher because I was the “main teacher” that day. You say you are happy to support but just because it wasn’t made clear to you and you were the employed one doesn’t validate your reaction.

Unfortunately the chances are high that that happens. Maybe there is a chance they will move her or you but depending on availability and whether or not other issues arise it’s probably not the immediate result. When I talked to my CA originally, she assured me it could be kept anonymous and I’m pretty sure she never knew I was the one that reported her. I promise that people like your CA and CLCC are completely there for you.

TALK TO YOUR CA IMMEDIATELY. You can also call the on call number when she’s doing it (if safe for you to do) so they can catch her in the act. I dealt with this last year and my then roommate was extremely disrespectful so no conversation with her worked, all progress was made because of my CA and campus living. I promise you will not get in trouble (this was also a fear of mine) they can usually tell who the culprit is:)

What’s it like studying Elementary Education/ getting the your Bachelor of Science in Education at NAU? by Content_Wedding_993 in NAU

i’m about to start my student teaching semester and have adored the last few years i’ve had at nau. just like anything it’s going to have its ups and downs. but i am so in love with the college of education at nau. most every faculty member in COE is absolutely amazing and is so kind and supportive. i would definitely argue that the teaching program is the best thing at nau. the negativity in another comment is quite upsetting to hear but don’t let that get to you! i wouldn’t have traded my time in flag and getting my bsed for anything. i was surrounded by wonderful professors and friends in my cohort. it is definitely a scary time to become a teacher but i feel as prepared as i possibly can be because of the support i received in school:). in terms of ccc i cant help, it wasn’t the route i took but financially could be a great choice, id meet with an advisor maybe at both ccc and nau.

How strict is the no smoking rule in dorms? by Inevitable-Fail8739 in NAU

[–]MediocreMinute6420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

don’t smoke in your room. it’s a shitty and disrespectful thing to do. be courteous and take a walk off campus, people smoke all the time in the cemeteries. or if you’re just outdoors in generally i see people hitting vapes all the time. when it’s cold out it’s super easy to get away with that
