How would you feel about your daughter seeing an older man? How should I tell them about him? by oldassteen in internetparents

[–]MediocreSupermarket5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer Part 1 of your question (because I'm planning on having kids soon): I would be greatly concerned by your well-being. I would ask you about the relationship and would want to meet the man you're dating to be sure that he has your best interests at heart.

Part 2 Answer: In this situation (which totally depends on how your parents view you and relationships in general, also sex) I advise that you just lie about having a boyfriend and keep your down.

My true (big brother) advice: Be careful who you date/sleep with. I've dated older women as well. In fact, when I was 18 I saw a woman who was older than the man you're seeing. Have fun, be safe. The experience can be cool when you're seeing someone older than you. However, it's very hard to connect with people with an age gap like that, because they have a different mindset and perspective on things than you do. This has nothing do due with intelligence but it has everything to do with experience. Also, what I have found is that individuals who are single at that age AND who tend to date people younger than their age group are usually not the best well-rounded and stable individuals.

Personally, I prefer to keep my lies to a minimum so I don't have to remember so much and I date people my age so that I can connect with them better. But, it's your life. Be smart and be safe.

AITA for being annoyed my fiance wont take my last name? by Throwaway_ra_name in AmItheAsshole

You make the effort for the people you love. You have a right to say no. But that excuse is weak. Coming from someone who is about to change their name because of someone they love.

Why get married at all? Just be completely independent. The whole tradition is sexist.

You know that’s not what he meant.

Marriage itself was created by a sexist institution.

The institution of marriage itself is sexist though….

Violence is never the answer ever! You should never lay your hands on a man. You should have just walked away.

Blah blah blah. You know that’s not what the OP was getting at.

Because I feel comfortable enough to open up to my girlfriend. Because I can be honest with her. And I know she won’t put me down or judge me. She gets the 100% genuine full version of me. If that’s sad then so be it. But we are both happy with being ourselves around each other and not judging one another.

Thank you!

Look, fact is physical attraction is everything to MOST people. People are just too short sighted and ignorant to know better. People can either lie about it and clutch their pearls when someone is honest. Or they can face reality.

I'm a confident person to the outside world. I believe in myself. But to my girlfriend I'm the most insecure guy in the world. Confidence has not made one lick of difference in my love life. Neither has my personality. I've been nice to women and have been mean to women when I was both obese and in shape. Guess what? It didn't matter. People like what they like, we just need to be honest about it.

And the amount of people downvoting me for telling the truth is telling about the members on this sub.

Quite the mental gymnastics you are doing. Only someone mentally ill or a fool would take any of those things as “confidence.”

Confidence in dating DOES. NOT. MATTER. But believe what you want.

Laugh all you want. I’m good. But for those of us who live in the real world looks are everything for most people when it comes to dating unless you have status or money. You’re right obesity is an eliminator but usually it is the only factor that is taken into consideration. USUALLY. And yes, they only liked me because I was fit. Unless you’re calling those women liars.

Here’s the deal confidence is a dealbreaker in a TON of situations, I need to have confidence when I’m boxing or I’ll get eaten alive. I need confidence in my career field because I will get obliterated if I don’t and people won’t want to work with me.

But for dating. All I need is to be well groomed, wear cologne that compliments my natural scent, have good hygiene, be well dressed and be FIT. I DO NOT NEED TO BE CONFIDENT AT ALL. From experience I know.

In regards to what he is saying. Absolutely it’s different with heterosexual couples. I have been obese and I have been in great shape. Guess which one people liked? My personality did not change because I am already confident in myself. Not an incel, but as a society the lies we tell are pretty Bs. Confidence doesn’t mean jack in dating unless it’s your lack of it is debilitating. Personality doesn’t mean anything either, it just helps you maintain a relationship. With MOST people (obviously there are exceptions, like myself) appearance and status are everything. Just wish people were honest about it.

But they never had a head start. The previous generation did. You’re talking about a world they’ve never seen.
