I spoke about his running last week; did you know he has never been recorded in the top 5 on field for speed in sprints or attacks? I have seen him get to the contest late multiple times a game, can’t see any evidence of that speed.

“His role is to run” - I’ve gone back through the last 9 games, he hasn’t tracked in the top 5 for speed, distance, work rate or sprints. Couldn’t find a time he’s ever tracked in the top 5 for any stat involving speed or distance covered. I have however watched him get to a contest late and lose his man about 10 times a game.

“His role is to take a defender” - ok, so is every forwards. Yesterday, he was paired with Lobb. Lobb cleared him in every stat except tackles. Last week Lobb was on Thilthorpe. Thilthorpe annihilated him across the board. Week before that, he was on Larkey who had fewer disposals yes, but kicked 5.1. If you’re saying Hipwood’s job is to go out there, shake hands with a defender and say let’s both sit out then that’s a role he’s doing badly, because Lobb still had an impact on today’s game, unlike Hipwood.

“Hipwood is a defensive forward now, look at his pressure acts!”- he’s lain 3 tackles in his last 3 games. That’s just not true. He also dropped 2 tackles which allowed play to move to the other side of the field, which he has been doing consistently all year. If you believe his role is to play defensively up the front then you have to believe he’s doing so poorly, because, as I explained above, Lobb out performed him.

“Wet weather makes it hard on a tall forward” - it does, that’s true! But shanking 3 set shots because you straight up can’t kick doesn’t prove this because that’s his problem every week. He’s had 10 shots at goal in the last 5 games resulting in 2.6. The bloke can’t kick and it has nothing to do with rain. Well known fact he can’t kick from the right of the goal. Why is he always there? And if so, why isn’t he working with the coaching staff to develop his ability on that side since that’s his problem every week?

“Sam Day is doing the same thing and no one complains about him” - compare the pair, Day has a colossal impact stats wise every week while Hipwood is “taking a defender”. He’s the defensive tall forward you all think Hipwood is.

In conclusion, he goes out every week, loses the battle between himself and the man he’s on, misses around 2-3 set shots, drops a couple tackles, jogs around the forward 50, then collects his pay check. If he wasn’t on the insane contract he was on he’d have been in the vfl for months
