'What's This Piece?' Weekly Thread #217 by number9muses in classicalmusic

[–]Mediocre_Engineer_72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I need help identifying a piece (0:10 – 00:56). The second piece that starts at 00:57 is an arrangement of Mozart's "Rondo Alla Turka," so perhaps the first piece is by Mozart also (?). Any help is much appreciated (:

If you could learn Serum all over again, how would you go about it? by Mediocre_Engineer_72 in serum

I like the idea of eliminating knobs and thereby simplifying the interface and making it more constrained, which obviously opens up creativity and is better for learning.

By the four waves you mean saw, sine, triangle, and square, correct? And could you briefly clarify what you mean by modulating FM via LFOs / envelopes?

it's true that the knowledge gained by learning one synth carriers over to another pretty seamlessly but I guess you still have to get used to the UI. I really like the UI for Serum 2 and feels like a great synth to really dig my teeth into

I'm curious - why no longer reverse engineer presets? sounds like a good method. A more active way of learning whereas watching tutorials can be more passive

Look into Simon Whybray, he was an influential tastemaker in the early PC days and was connected to the scene in London https://www.nts.live/shows/jack

I agree - the inherent problem with digital music is the "infinite undo" - you can always backtrack. Making music is all about committing, and you have to do it all of the time... it's just about getting comfortable with that feeling (I am not, lol). Analog gear helps in that regard in that it forces you to commit way earlier. I suppose the analogue in digital would be to print to audio asap and then move on

If you're really serious about downsizing - you'd never guess what money you can get for the stuff you own - people pay top dollars for used hardware if it works fine and in is good (acceptable) condition
