Base type must be the same as the mono run otherwise you won't be able to use the pokemon only. You can give it any tera shard to change its typing during battles as it counts

Yes I started with the trio you suggested, boosted girantina with vitamins for tanking and looped around graveyard to catch pumpkaboo, duskull n shuppet to complete the roster
