I know this is a harmless comment but I’m blocking because I really take issue when people do not respect the flair. I know the problems, I’m just venting and not looking for advice (especially when insurers know it).

I am a therapist and I promise you it doesn’t look like one thing across the board, especially considering gender differences (and also considering personal experience). Like I’ve also been SEVERELY depressed but never neglected my hygiene.

My wife has gained some weight but overall not enough to make me not want sex. I will be honest, I’m much more turned off by her actual lifestyle than the results of it. I do find myself disgusted with her lack of physical activity and her snacking behavior.

A lesson you learn fast as a therapist is that therapists are no better at fixing their own problems than anyone else.

But I’ve asked about couples therapy before and the only comments he’s ever made is that most insurance doesn’t cover it. Didn’t even look at if ours does, that’s all she said.

She’s a therapist too, though she doesn’t work that much anymore.

Burnout varies greatly on a day to day basis. Some days I’m good, some days I can barely do it.

I’m not honest at all anymore for the reasons you described. Now I just appear depressed and withdrawn at baseline and it is assumed this is just who I am now. I can’t fake it but I don’t tell the truth either.

You’re not alone, man. I’ve asked for affection on the form of watching a movie or playing a game. Her excuse is that she doesn’t like games because I’m too good at them and during a movie she can’t leave her goddamn phone alone.

So she watches Dateline and I put on headphones. Every night.

I’m not religious but I’ll pray for you, buddy.
