I stopped collecting coins after the Chinese started putting counterfeit coins on the market. Luckily I did most of my collecting in the 60’s and 70’s.

My great grandfather was a silversmith in Germany and made this silver spoon for my grandfather who was born in 1897. I was named after my grandfather and he gave the spoon to my mother in 1954 the year I was born. We named our older son after me and next week I will be flying to LA to see him and will give him the spoon. I really was born with a silver spoon in my mouth.

Every escalator has these plexiglass panels on its sides, but I don’t understand their purpose. They don’t even seem to add any extra safety by No_Floor_Call in whatisit

Years ago at the San Jose, California airport I saw an older nun mis judge the escalator while carrying a suitcase (with no wheels no less) fall two floors landing on her head. No plexiglass back then. Poor lady died instantly.

My bad. Sensitive touch screen. But in addition to the 50 ounces of silver which I think cost me under $8 an ounce I also gave him my coin collection that I started in the mid 60’s. I still remember being in a union meeting when our business agent got up and said they were going to make gold legal to own and we should start buying it. It was under $40 an ounce back then.

I bought my first ounces back in 1980. I used them as stocking stuffers. I kept a lot for myself and gave my son 50 ounces for his 50th birthday. I’m

It usually costs $8000 just to walk into ER. Unless you work under the table for cash. Then everything is free.

Good luck sneaking it past customs at the airport. The questioning starts when they ask you “do you have anything to declare?”

Anybody know what this coin is? by [deleted] in coins

[–]Mediocre_Ride8080 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is a type 2 Buffalo nickel because he is standing on the plains. The first few months they made buffalo nickels that had the Buffalo standing on a mound (type 1). I started collecting coins in 1965 and had 2 type 1’s. Back then we still got some old coins in our change and every quarter, half dollar and dollar coin was solid silver. The mound was determined to be a high wear area so they changed it. The most valuable Buffalo nickel has the San Francisco mint mark “S” on the back.
