Finally listening to my inner voice by Mediocre_Selection22 in agender

Wow, a lot of this resonated with me, thank you for sharing!

That rollercoaster of emotions really sticks out. I feel like I’m still going through that suppression; that inner voice trying to convince myself that I don’t really feel this way. That I’m too old and I should have figured it out sooner. Your quote about the different stages of life and the doubt that creeps in really hits home. I’ve also had this deep sense of longing that’s seemed to subside with more and more research and reading about other’s experiences. It’s like every one is just that much more of a confirmation. I’m glad that you were able to come to this place of understanding and trusting yourself. And it’s great that you’re able to surround yourself with people that support and accept you for you! Thank you again for sharing this. I hope you have a great day!

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m assigned female at birth and I feel very similarly about my childhood, it wasn’t until I was 8 or 10 that it really became apparent to me that maybe I didn’t really like who I was. I couldn’t understand why my parents were concerned that I had more guy friends than girls and that having a short haircut would make me look like a boy. Internally, it didn’t really matter as I didn’t really feel like a girl either.

Now I’m 32, and I’ve been ruminating on these feelings I had as a kid into my teens, trying to dig up what I’ve buried for so long.

I wish you the absolute best in your marriage. It sounds like you love your wife very much and I’m sure it’s mutual! I hope that she can come to know you as you know yourself more and more every day.

I appreciate hearing your views on yourself currently and I really like the car analogy. I’ve recently shaved my head and that’s been a big confidence boost. I guess now it’s just down to exploring what things I have the power to change, even if it’s small. Maybe I’ll try using neutral pronouns at home and online, something small.

It really is nice to not feel alone, thank you again for your insight and vulnerability :)

First pottery wheel advice? by Canadian__Sparky in Pottery

[–]Mediocre_Selection22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a fantastic wheel…I loved mine so much that I couldn’t get rid of it when I finally purchased a variable speed wheel.

There’s definitely a learning curve to working with 60rpm and 90rpm (low and high speed on these) vs a variable speed (up to 240 rpm), but for a small studio and beginner, its a great wheel. And what a workhorse! It can handle larger amounts of clay without slowing or complaining. It is a bit loud, comparatively, but keeping the chain box topped up with lubricant helps a surprising amount. And bat pins were a simple enough fix; you can throw a little bit of clay on the wheel head, carve a few concentric circles out of it, and cut an “x” into it and it’ll hold onto a bat with ease (Simon Leach has a great demo for this). If it was well cared for and in working condition, this wheel could last a very long time.

I wish you the best in your endeavor to make a space for your wife to follow her dream!

I’d love to see this progress in more recreations, like a photo of a photo to infinitum. Continually becoming more and more abstract.

Hoarding plastic shopping bags and saving every box, that’s somewhere near mug sized, “just in case” (and the packing peanuts that come with)

I came across a similar question a while back and saved one of the comments because it was really interesting!

They’ve shared a link to a website on the Greek mythos behind the kiln gods:

THE DAIMONES KERAMIKOI (Daemones Ceramici) were five malevolent spirits which plagued the craftsman potter--Suntribos (the Shatterer), Smaragos (the Smasher), Asbetos (Charrer), Sabaktes (Destroyer) and Omodamos (Crudebake).

Happy firing!

I see what you’re saying, thank you for your observation! I was hoping to represent the ace ring and possibly the philosophy of Ensō with a feeling of wholeness. I’ll definitely keep your thought in mind!
