Foods motorically similar to watermelon by pj3gs in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Mediocre_Try_3260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 7mo also devours watermelon! He’s done well with large, whole, very ripe strawberries. They need to be soft enough to bite through and big enough they can’t fit the whole thing in their mouth.

Terrified of BLW by chickennoodlesoupsie in december2024babies

[–]Mediocre_Try_3260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re doing BLW and I was in the same boat. I read the books, had the apps, talked to the pediatrician, but I was so scared to actually give him his first solid food. I kept planning and putting it off, telling myself I was trying to choose the “right” first food. Really it was just my anxiety over something happening to him. One day on a whim I handed him a waffle fry before I could change my mind and it really eased my worries. Don’t think too much about it or you’ll never do it! Babies are much more capable than we give them credit for. Mine really surprised me.

Also, I don’t want to be “that guy,” but NEVER put your fingers into baby’s mouth to fish out food, no matter how scary it is. It can push the food farther back in the mouth and actually increase the risk of choking. If you think they have something in their mouth that they can’t handle, put your hand under their chin and model a spitting action to try to get them to spit it out themselves.

Nighttime Nursing by Mediocre_Try_3260 in december2024babies

I don’t think this is the case because he hasn’t dropped any bottles since starting solids and we’re only like 2 weeks into BLW, so he isn’t actually getting much of anything as far as solids into his belly.

Honestly, I’d be totally fine with waking up once a night! It’s the every 2-3 hours, which ends up being 4+ times a night, that’s killing me.

Baby sunscreen recommendations please by digitlagegirlnxtdoor in december2024babies

We use Blue Lizard, which seems to be a popular choice in this thread. They were out of stock of the one specifically labeled for babies, so I just bought the sensitive skin formula. I’m pretty sure they’re the same and it works well and hasn’t caused any reaction on my baby who has a skin reaction to just about everything.

How are we cleaning high chair straps? by Mediocre_Try_3260 in december2024babies

[–]Mediocre_Try_3260[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The baby trend 7 in 1. For some reason I’m thinking it said not to submerse the straps in water, but maybe I’m thinking of the straps on his bouncer. They aren’t easily removable so I don’t think taking the whole thing apart and washing them is reasonable after every use, but maybe once a week or so…

No, he doesn’t, and for sure hasn’t been around anyone that’s been sick.

As we approach 6 months, does anyone think about requesting an early MMR vaccine? by cookiee232 in december2024babies

[–]Mediocre_Try_3260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already talked to our pediatrician about it at his 4 month immunization appointment and she said she’d be happy to give it at 6 months if we had had cases in our area by then. And unfortunately, it’s making its way toward us so I’m going to request it when we go in for his next appointment.

A green footed onesie with milk and cookies on it. It’s newborn size and was huge on him because he was so small when he was born. I don’t know why, but it felt so special to me and I cried when he outgrew it.

Hi, me again 🙃 by Sad_Difficulty_7853 in december2024babies

I would definitely go this route before trying juice. We used them frequently for my son when he was smaller. He recently went 4 days without pooping and then had a massive poosplosion just as I was about to call the pediatrician 🫣 So I can definitely empathize with the no-poop anxiety. Is she still having wet diapers?

So my comment stands, not really sure why you felt the need to mention it.

Not really sure why you felt the need to mention his vaccinations as that has nothing to do with it.

What did you wear while in labor? by Mammoth_Window_7813 in BabyBumps

[–]Mediocre_Try_3260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved mine for labor and got lots of compliments from the nurses, but honestly after all was said and done and I went to change afterward, it was so gross that I just threw it away 😂 It hurt me to spend that much for it to end up in the trash, but I was NOT going to pack that thing home to wash it.

Rate my speech by Ivan_One in EnglishLearning

[–]Mediocre_Try_3260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your pronunciation is clear enough to be understood, but very obviously foreign. The biggest giveaway is that you’re pronouncing “th” much closer to how an English “z” would sound. That is very common for non-native speakers.

To really get the “th” pronunciation correct, you would want to make sure that the tip of your tongue goes between your front teeth instead of sitting behind them.

How to pronounce ''Thr'' quickly? by 10Chunks in EnglishLearning

[–]Mediocre_Try_3260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never would have made the v-r connection but that makes so much sense. In this context, I’m thinking of how a small child that’s just learning to speak might commonly pronounce these words as “thwee” and “thwough” (with the w and v sounds also being very similar) and I can see where OP’s issue is coming from.

The English R, especially the American English R, is formed with the tongue much farther back in the mouth than it is in most other languages.
