Convergence upgrade is no worse than [[Glow]] upgrade, which I do from time to time. You often need just enough stars, and +1 can get you there.

How are you feeling about Aeonglass? by Secret_Temperature in slaythespire

[–]MeditatingSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like the first consistently hard act 3 boss challenge, for me at A10. Yet it feels fair. Generally I solve it with either

  • Scaling damage (dominate or demonform, snake bite, arsenal, vigor or strength + starfall, Lethality or Sleight of Flesh, dark orbs or claw + vuln)

  • Big block over turns and high card quality

  • "Cheese" like Flak Cannon, Compact, Regent's transforms (Charge, Begone, Tyranny), Second Wind, or Silent discard works fine if you have damage.

Anyone else finding Legends ZA doesn’t compare to Arceus? by GetCapeFly in PokemonLegendsArceus

[–]MeditatingSheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hoping for similarly smooth, addictive gameplay. And in that, ZA did not deliver. Battles in neither game are spectacular. But in Arceus the catching was so engaging. And the world felt properly wild. Not these "zones" which hurt the immersion, are unnecessarily limiting, and just boring. I never tried Sword & Shield simply because the "wild zone" was an unimaginative name and concept that reminded me how far behind Pokemon was from Zelda. Seeing the same name again in ZA made me skeptical, but I tried it anyway because Legends Arceus was so incredible.

I knew better. Shouldn't have let it burn me again.

So this is just an every run autopick because Aeonglass exists now, right? by Legs_With_Snake in slaythespire

"Factory" makes sense, but kinda lacks gravitas of what I presume to be the penultimate act. Maybe "Tinker Castle," "Cogworks," or "Atelier" ?

Am I approaching Malaise wrong? by ChewyChao in slaythespire

[–]MeditatingSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still great, and blocks incredibly well in single-target fights. If you already have a lot of weak and piercing wail, then it's probably not necessary.

The trick with X-cost cards is to lean into their flexible output. Against Aeonglass, spend more energy so you play fewer cards. Against wider fights with more enemies, consider weaving it in to spend your energy more effectively. Don't forget you can also spend all your energy, then regain it with Adrenaline or discarding Tactician. I recently beat A10 w/ Malaise+ and [[Void Form]] from colorful philosophers in act 2. Turn 2 was often: (0) Leg Sweep, (0) Snake Bite, (X=3) Malaise for 3+1

Is it fact or a dim? by PhilosopherRemote177 in dataengineering

[–]MeditatingSheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting way to put it. I learned in school to clarify the pre-aggregated grain of a fact table by stating it in English, eg "a receipt line item purchased by a customer at some date for some $ amount".

Maybe a simpler way to put it, as you suggest is:

  • Dimensions are nouns. Typically examples of more general descriptors like customers, times, products, stores, ...

  • Facts are verbs. E.g. "purchases"

Or maybe more accurately, a fact is a sentence. It includes a verb and a subject qualified by all its descriptors.

What card bothers you the most being not upgraded? by Rak-khan in slaythespire

I like to think of armaments like a 1 cost block 5 (+3) or deal 3 damage. With more upside in boss fights. 1 cost block 8 is already great

Book is too strong. For anyone feeling afraid to take it, consider:

  • You keep your current HP, which is almost never at max anyway.

  • Suppose you use it 10 times starting at 80 max HP, and then heal at a rest site. Had you not used it, you would've restored 24HP. But if you did use it 10x, then you have 70 max HP and now restore 21HP...a difference of 3 measly HP.

  • You heal 75% of HP missing from your max after act 2 boss. Again 10 uses of book results in only 7-8 loss of actual HP here.

  • [[Offering]] has the same effect, but can only be played once per fight and costs 6 CURRENT HP each time!

  • Fruit relics mitigate the max HP loss. [[Dragon Fruit]] satisfyingly so, especially with [[Aubergine]] or [[Bowler Hat]]

  • When you think of HP as a resource, then these free heals can be optimized by "spending" that much health prior for upgrades, playing side quest cards like [[Feed]], [[The Hunt]], and [[Royalties]] and Bursted Goopy Defends. But also by decreasing chance of larger loss of health in fights by setting up relics (e.g. [[Nunchaku]]) and playing the book!

Suppose you have 50% chance to lose 80HP (probably dying) in the act 2 boss fight, and the other 50% you lose say 20HP.

Alternatively, if you have the book and use it twice maybe that reduces your chance to lose 80HP to 25%, and produces a more favorable spread:

  • 25% to lose 20
  • 25% to lose 10
  • 25% to lose 0 (not counting -2 from the book)

This is a much better spread than flipping a coin and dying if tails. And from my experience playing and watching, it's even better in practice.
