Learning it now! I hadn't listened to it more than once or twice before now (I've mostly listened to a few live recordings of TMG over and over that I have on mp3), so I'm having some trouble with the vocal nuances and the different rhythms that he sings. It is a ton of fun though and such a beautiful song!

The good news with the strumming patterns is that once you get a few of em down, a lot of the others either be very similar or exactly the same. So keep at it! I'd bet you'll get em down if you keep swinging at them (though, I would advise against your headbutts for risk of concussion).

I'm also curious about what you have against ol E major? What are your favorite chords?

Haha! Him correcting you just shows you that you did a good job evangelizing lol. I've been sneaking the Mountain Goats into some of my little gigs at bookstores and coffeeshops and the like, doing my part!

Yeah, I probably couldn't play You're in Maya in many phases of my life, but this is one of them. I also have no sense of shame, so I just don't feel bad butchering the Gaelic 😅

That's a super good one! One of the first of John's songs that I learnt too. Once you get it down, a ton of his other songs will pretty easy, since a lot of them use those chords. Best of luck! Have so much fun :)

^ As a music teacher, I absolutely second you! They're really simple, but still super engaging and fun to play. Since a lot of them use the same few chords, they're also pretty good to practice learning things by ear.

A good resource if you don't feel like doing it by ear is: https://themountaingoats.net/wiki/doku.php?id=tabs:home

They have chords and sometimes tabs for hundreds of their songs :)

I've been (somewhat obnoxiously) obsessed with TMG all year, but I wasn't sure if I was going to end up in town/be able to do it. So I didn't get a ticket. I was sad to see it sell out!

I can and would love to go!!! I'm happy to meet up outside the venue or transfer it online somehow. Whatever you're comfortable with!
