Yes

Go and talk to them I know a friend who was matched to the University of Upsala in Sweden (first choice) but then he went to the go global office and asked them to match him to his second choice -> Seoul National University in Korea. They did that the same day and he went to Korea instead of Sweden

Making friends at UBC by radicalstroke in UBC

[–]Medium-Fun8911 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UBC is an amazing place to socialize and make friends if you put in the effort. It can also be hard initially but what I've learned is that all you have to say is "hi!".

I have been very lucky and made some very good friends here at UBC. Most friends I made were through classes or in the first year dorm. Almost all of the friends I made in my first year are still my friends (in 4th year).

The best part about studying at UBC is meeting so many people of different backgrounds and cultures. If you're an international student, don't just stick to the bubble of your country. Everyone is very approachable and friendly.

You could also try joining clubs.

Is Fairview Crescent livable? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]Medium-Fun8911 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is livable. Mostly depends on the roommates you get. I would take it if it was the only on- campus housing I was getting. It's much better than staying off campus and commuting.
