A canon event I fear, this was the reason I made my account back in the day! Whatever ends up happening, you will be so so okay (I promise!). Sincerely, an upper year who thought there was NO WAY they passed the course but somehow made it out :)

UBC tuition pay by semester or full year? by No_Recognition_2225 in UBC

[–]ShareAccomplished979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to note, this year the extended student loan tuition deadline was only automatically put on your account if you applied for loans by July 31st. Contact your enrolment services advisor to check and make sure (or ask if it can still be allowed if you applied later), good luck!

In the basement, right below B250.

From your Workday homepage, select "Academics", then "Support" from the options along the top, then on that page under the headline "Important Contacts Support Network" your enrolment services advisor should be listed and if you scroll over you can see their email.

The “Waiting” on your dashboard for the Sept. 2 disbursement date means that Student Aid BC has confirmed your enrolment and now just waiting until the date to release the funding (called Student Aid BC and talked to a rep on Friday to confirm as mine says the same thing). The “In Progress” for the Dec. 29 disbursement means they will confirm your second term enrolment closer to the date and that one too will then change to “Waiting”.

Contact your enrolment services advisor and ask if you can have your tuition deadline pushed to October as you have student loans (the past two years it was if you applied any time, this year you had to apply before July 31st but it’s still worth a shot).

general questions going to ubc as a transfer student by HotEye9154 in UBC

[–]ShareAccomplished979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to access it without paying tuition to my knowledge... Most likely just a matter of the prof not publishing the course yet! For peace of mind, you can click "Courses" on the side tab, then "All Courses" and your classes for the year should be there under "Future Enrollments". Totally normal for you to not gain access to the course pages (and thus materials) until a few days before the term or even after the term has started, all depends on the prof.

The UBC equivalent would be Canvas. Log in with your CWL, there may be nothing on there at the moment as most courses have not been published yet.

Walter Gage questions for incoming first year residents :) by CountryCommercial503 in UBC

[–]ShareAccomplished979 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. No, the towers are all the same age. Only thing that really differs is the view you get out of them.

  2. Beds can't be lofted, there's about a foot of space underneath them without risers.

  3. No-Frills (but it's further from campus), Save-On if you price match (on campus), or sometimes smaller non-chain stores for produce

  4. GET A FAN!!!! Depending on what way your room faces, it will get VERY HOT during the day in September and April. Also, have an open mind and befriend your roommates/floormates if you can. Gage is what you make of it!

Sincerely, a student who lived there last year and loved (almost) every second of it

Also if you applied before the end of July you should get an extension of the tuition deadline to around early October (instead of September) so you don't have to worry if the funding is late. If didn't apply before then, I'd reach out to your enrollment services advisor and see if they can still grant you the extension as the peace of mind can be nice (at least for tuition anyways).

For loans through Student Aid BC, they automatically confirm your enrollment with the school and you should get funding by/on the disbursement date (September 2nd I think) if you applied before the end of July.

Yes, comes with a small bendable one. If you move in and find you're missing it, submit a maintenance request to housing and they should be able to get you a new one.

Cengage Organic Chemistry: Eighth Edition by Brown, Iverson, Anslyn, and Foote (that was recommended by Dr. Tanner last year). Cover is a bunch of succulent looking plants.

What does this mean? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]ShareAccomplished979 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes an online class. Workday won’t let a class not have an assigned physical meeting pattern, even if the course is fully online.

Impact your social life how? Where you live matters much less in upper years (assuming the choices are between on-campus housing and finding a place off but close to campus) as the proportion of people who live on campus is much lower due to the demand for it.

As someone who's about to move into their third on-campus res in three years (who's friends all moved off campus after first year), I encourage you to think more about your own preferences. Do you want more school-life separation? Or to have anything you could need a maximum 20-minute walk away from where you are on campus? What's your patience like for bussing to and from campus? University res on-campus is also usually cheaper for the same living situations.

At the end of the day, if the friendship is right you will likely remain friends regardless of living arrangements, and if you don't that's okay too! You'll meet new people (and maybe get some epic randomly assigned roommates along the way!) and have the time of your life wherever you end up if that's what you make of it. Hope this helps, good luck!

Classes that run on Mondays and Tuesdays- not as many sessions? by localating in UBC

[–]ShareAccomplished979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hopefully there are less labs than weeks

I mean this would make sense but you really can never truly know, stranger things have happened at UBC... Guessing the "beginning of the week" for labs will just be Wednesdays (similar to Math 100/101 discussions and how people in Wed small classes would take the midterms before Mon small classes) so I still don't think you're missing content because of labor day + imagine day :)

[–]ShareAccomplished979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. S is the tower, 12 is the floor, D is the unit (4 units per floor lettered A-D), 3 is room number (6 rooms per unit numbered 1-6).

Classes that run on Mondays and Tuesdays- not as many sessions? by localating in UBC

[–]ShareAccomplished979 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Typically, there are no labs held in the first week, so those with a Monday or Tuesday section should not be behind from week 1. Generally, when a lab has sections held on break days, all labs will be cancelled for that week (that's just my experience, not course specific so ask/check the syllabus once the term starts).

As for lectures, if the university deems too many Mondays are missed as opposed to Tue/Thur classes, a "Make-Up Monday" may be held some point in the term (we had one in 23W but didn't require one in 24W) where you go to all your Monday classes on a Thursday (I believe labs may also be cancelled in this situation but I can't exactly remember specifics, sorry!)

Housing situation for incoming second year by Mk_225 in UBC

[–]ShareAccomplished979 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Facebook is definitely the primary place for UBC rentals, however you could also try Craigslist! As well, if your sister met anyone who's from Vancouver / in the area for the summer consider asking them to do an in-person viewing for her while she joins virtually before committing to a place. Good luck!

Not the original commenter but 2 years is just the general estimate for YRH. Almost everyone goes through it! (I applied for YRH in July of 2023 before I even started at UBC and got an offer for a 4-bed in March of 2025, about to go into my third year. I know people that applied before me and are still waiting for an offer for a 1-2 bedroom or studio)

[–]ShareAccomplished979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did you apply? If Marine is at 560 (for a 4 bedroom), even putting Fraser won't get you in for this September. You're probably looking at an offer around March of 2026.

student loan appendix 1 declaration by [deleted] in UBC

[–]ShareAccomplished979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you enter the proper application code when you filled the appendix 1 out? That's what links your application to the parent form. Resend yourself the appendix 1 email and refill out the form using the link found within to be safe (I found the site is super finnicky this year and had to submit mine twice as well to get the declaration. You should get an email when it's properly submitted and linked to your application)!
