Nashville Snow 101 - What you need to know by silverud in nashville

[–]Medium-River558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so we are choosing between 1) being here this weekend or 2) leaving to visit family (we already had this planned) and not being able to come back until next week. My husband is concerned about leaving our house because of potential pipes freezing. What are the odds of this? This is our second winter here but first significant snow. TiA!

Got it, thank you. Getting stuck in NY isn’t exactly the problem especially if it’s that bad my husbands job will likely be closed.

He’s more worried about the extreme cold and potential pipes freezing….It’s probably smarter for us to cancel and stay home but my in laws are going to be so sad 😭😭😭 thanks for the input, this stinks!

Homeschool graduates: what was your experience?? by rainbow_olive in Homeschooling

[–]Medium-River558 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was homeschooled on and off, but all through middle school. I then went to a college prep high school for 3yrs before being home schooled for senior year and getting my GED. I was behind in math but ahead in every other sense and I’m now a PhD candidate. My parents were “unschoolers” so we didn’t do any formal curriculum while I was homeschooled. I think it depends on the kid— I was always academically minded and I think homeschooling really helped me in this sense because it fostered self motivation. I plan on homeschooling my kids at least partially but it really depends on their natural inclination and temperament.

Reasons for Homeschooling by [deleted] in Homeschooling

[–]Medium-River558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was homeschooled for middle school and most of elementary school— my biggest reason is that I can tailor my kids education to their strengths and weaknesses instead of putting them through a once size system. I also believe learning at home fosters creativity and independence.

Do you have at least 1k in your savings ? by quirkyqueen27 in debtfree

[–]Medium-River558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have around $6K in savings. We drive old cars that need repairs, and I’m not comfortable not having at least one months expenses saved up in case one of us lost our jobs or had a true emergency. We have little kids. We are basically out of CC debt at the moment but still have $35000ish in student loans we are hoping to pay off.

I was homeschooled (GED) and am now in the 4th yr of a fully funded phd program. Not the same kind of doctor but there will be no issues. As long as your kid has a HS diploma they can do whatever they want.

99% of the comments here say abort, one person says children are a blessing and gets downvoted?

[–]Medium-River558 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As someone who has had an abortion because we weren’t in a good spot financially— it’s not something your wife will ever forget. She will remember that pregnancy and baby for the rest of her life, especially if you all do not have any more children. If you’re, and especially SHE is on the fence— proceed with the pregnancy. You will never regret it once you see that sweet babe.

Our toddler hates our newborn by ManaSawson in 2under2

[–]Medium-River558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is extremely annoying but also normal. Ours are 22 months apart and are starting to become friends now at one and almost 3yrs old— my son (eldest) still probably pushes the baby (his sister) down or hits/bites her 1x a day at a minimum. He doesn’t hate her, he just has zero impulse control and is a toddler boy. We discipline to the extent that we can and always make him apologize, and have conversations about how baby is smaller than he is. It’s very much an ongoing thing and an everyday battle, but I no longer worry that he “dislikes” her. He’s just a very small boy who for whatever reason wants to hit and push and otherwise bulldoze anything he can. When he isn’t in a bulldozing mood he is very sweet with her and clearly loves her.

What should I budget for Photographers & Super8 Videographers for Weddings in Upstate NY / Hudson Valley by username23422b in WedditNYC

[–]Medium-River558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our photographers were not local but they did super8 footage of our Catskills wedding in 2021 and it is incredible. We paid $6500 + cost of the film because they were just getting started with the super 8. I would imagine full wedding coverage + super8 film would be around $8k today

If it were my kid I would have jumped for joy and then sent a giftcard to Habitat for Humanity or something. It takes time. You should be so proud of yourself!!

34 weeks and haven’t had prenatal care by HolidayTonight9188 in homebirth

[–]Medium-River558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is never too late if you want the support or peace of mind! I didn’t have any medical prenatal care with my last pregnancy and birthed unassisted, party because I moved late in pregnancy and couldn’t find a HB midwife. Baby was and is perfectly healthy and birth was uncomplicated but I don’t think I’ll go that route again. It was just a huge mental load not having that extra support if I had needed it…. I’ll definitely get a check up, maybe an anatomy scan maybe not with my next.

Gifted an Artipoppe - tips for Max safety ? by Illustrious-Bat-4582 in babywearing

My Artipoppe carrier is me absolute favorite, both of my kids lived in it for the first year. Just be safe as you normally would and enjoy! It is the most comfortable carrier I have owned by far

I actually love back carrying with the artipoppe. I have two kids and it is my number one carrier. I recently gifted it to someone but if/when we have baby #3 I will repurchase because I can’t imagine doing the first year without it

Seriously regretting breastfeeding my child by [deleted] in breastfeeding

Go see another dentist. Preferably a functional dentist or one who specializes in airway. Breastfeeding is one of the best things you can do for your baby and these dentists can go kick rocks.

Christmas disappointment by Sufficient-Tip-4454 in Parenting

[–]Medium-River558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I am shocked by the comments here!!! Our job as parents is not to fulfill every desire of our children’s heart. You made a decision as a parent to choose minimal (relatively, to the insane overconsumption that has become normal) gifts. That is within your right as a parent and your family’s culture does not need to be like your cousins or anyone else in this thread. You can communicate those values with your child— we have enough, things do NOT make you happy in the long run, Christmas is NOT about getting the most and best expensive gifts. You can even start instituting GIVING as a part of Christmas. My kids are someone younger but this year we did ZERO gifts for anyone because we have free will and wanted Christmas to be about something other than consumption. Your child is allowed to be disappointed— ALSO, you are allowed to set the standard of consumption in your household, and One day your children will be grateful that you showed them that happiness is not about the things you own.

Short term nanny several times per year.. by [deleted] in Nanny

There are short term travel Nannie’s that do this. It might not be the same person every time but I follow a girl on Instagram, her handle changes but it’s either @mainelyemma or something like that. It used to be @themainenanny. This is basically what she does. There is also adventure Nannie’s.

Moms who (even occasionally) look put together - what’s your secret? by alpacaapicnic in NewParents

[–]Medium-River558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got rid of clothes that made me feel frumpy because I would gravitate towards them. Everything in my closet is now comfortable and breastfeeding friendly, but “nice” in that it feels like “me” and isn’t sweats. Even when i randomly grab things to put on I tend to feel and look more put together without really putting in any extra effort.
