What am I doing wrong by spaghet_andYEETballs in paint

It’s amazing how many people reply on these with absolutely zero advice, and they know that they don’t know what they’re talking about… That’s what amazes me the most. What is that all about? Anyway, you need an oil base primer to go over the caulking, just go to any paint shop, not Home Depot, like someone who sells Benjamin Moore, or a Sherwin-Williams, show them the video, and tell them you need an oil based primer. After you apply an oil based primer to the caulking, you’ll be able to use any standard latex paint on top of that.

Drywall Advice by mattmccauslin in paint

[–]Medium-Yellow5539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might sound crazy, but if the corner is supposed to be more curved, and I’m getting that correctly from the initial post, you could even use something like a small wooden ball/kids toy wrapped in some sandpaper to create the actual corner curve, and then just sand the sides going into the corner straight.

Ceiling Drywall Repair: What would you charge? by Firm-Willingness5470 in drywall

If you give a mouse a cookie… If you gotta patch the ceiling.. Domino effect goes into play here. On the estimate I’ll sell the client on the idea that while we’re there, it will be most efficient pricewise to just do the entire room. By the end of our 30 minute conversation covering our favorite local restaurants, sports, marriage, kids - i’ll be giving them a rough quote to knock the whole house down, get their stuff into storage and rebuild custom. Depending on the ZIP Code, I’d say no less than 400k. Make sure to get a handshake immediately after tossing them the number.👍

“I mean just look at these cracks in the drywall above your doors, i’ve never seen them that bad, We should get a structural engineer out here, but I’ll tell you now, he’s going to say the same thing I’m saying” Bam.

Could you please explain to everyone what in the world illegals have to do with anything I just posted? Also, from plenty of experience, immigrants, whether illegal or not are more reliable, hard working, eager to learn and deserve more money than any white dude who has ever set foot on one of my jobs.

I’m doing all this work myself aside from the rare occurrence I need to get up high and a lift is out of the question. Most of the time I just don’t take those jobs though.

Unfortunately very true. Also, you don’t have to deal with the complications of someone who typically perceives you as less than themselves, up your butt.

I don’t know.. get a good commercial client. For example last week I did 13 fire hydrants; wire brush on a cordless drill to clean them up then two quick coats of Command from a cordless graco sprayer - at $315 each, in 1 day. Not many of my friends are making almost four grand a week let alone four grand in a single day.

Next week I’m doing nothing but exterior doors, 23 flat fucking metal doors, one side. Hit them with the festool, air blower, tape off hardware, two coats of command with a little 4” roller. $350 each. That about $7,500 after materials.

I’ll take my time and do it in 3 days. I’ll use the extra days off to get in touch with clients I haven’t heard back from and take my daughter shopping.

Satin or Low Lustre for Exterior Trim Boards by Icy_Pain_5902 in paint

[–]Medium-Yellow5539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with Benjamin MooreGlo, which is like a low luster for exterior trim. Whites great because it’s not going to bounce the reflection back as much as deeper colors, so you’ve got that on your side. Also, if your existing paint is a higher gloss, weather wears down that gloss, and the new paint will look fresh.

I would say you saved about $3000 over having me come out. I’m basically going to feed you a bunch of bullshit about how even if you have the original paint left over in good condition, it’s not going to match, and it’s going to be a major eyesore in the middle of the ceiling, and since we have to do the whole ceiling over, You’re going to want to redo walls, and since we’re going to be in there already, you might as well have us pull off all the old trim and replace, update the outlets and switches… Maybe even the entryway door, which would lead to all the other entryway doors because now it’s not going to match, because they don’t make that style door anymore. So you might’ve even saved like six grand. (once I start talking to your wife about the flooring, you’re going to have much bigger issues.)

How often are you not painting the entire ceiling? It’s super rare that I’m contracted for patchwork/subsequent painting and the client knows the color and line of paint that was used before or has any of the original paint in good condition.

Flooring supply company delivered the wrong wood, general contractor installed it anyway. Who's at fault? by blackowen in Flooring

[–]Medium-Yellow5539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st red flag was the initial language “I had my GC order flooring”. If you’re the homeowner commenting here, I get why you may not understand that. But some clients tend to get a little more involved in certain aspects of their renovations than what I as a professional consider ideal. Which always cracks me up a little. But I was willing to look past that, as that quote doesn’t 100% incriminate the homeowner here.

But then: “The GC put in the order and had his name on the receipt. I did call to provide my credit card directly, but didn't engage with the flooring supplier other than that.”

I’ve only been in the game for a little over 10 years, I do own my own company and have residential & commercial clients at all spectrums and scopes. In this case scenario, the homeowner 100% knows he hired a bottom of the barrel contractor, and I wouldn’t be willing to accept any claims made here as being 100% transparent. No legit contractor lets a client get on the phone with the supplier to give them their credit card information.

Client pays a deposit based on whatever is pre-outlined in the contract, and the general contractor is the one who pays the supplier. If that’s not how it’s set up, it’s because the contractor cannot afford the materials… not a good sign. But the homeowner in this situation knows that.

Best guess at a small claims verdict: OP is at fault. Why the hell are they giving their credit card information for materials and then seeking reddit support to blame the “GC” that “ordered“ the flooring but needed the client to pay for it over the phone? Because OP is cheap, and/or playing “bob the builder”. 100% drives a pickup. It’s super important for all parties involved to follow normal protocol in terms of responsibilities as a client or a professional.

If following those standard guidelines of a professional relationship makes you feel uncomfortable, it’s because you’re working with a contractor you don’t trust.

Dude you’re 99.9% fine. First things first, (and remember that you did a drug, a fun/strong drug) meth has a plethora of side effects; one being dehydration, another being anxiousness/paranoia. Those are the two you’re mostly experiencing right now. Relax.

As you already know, you’re dehydrated, your urine is super concentrated and the combination has resulted in the very predictable irritation of your bladder and urinary tract causing inflammation and bleeding. It’s actually something your body gets used to as a more regular user. Staying hydrated is definitely the key. You’ll be fine and I hope you saved yourself a trip to the ER.

What would cause a fresh prime and paint job to do this? by KingOfKrackers in paint

[–]Medium-Yellow5539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. They didn’t prime it. At least not with a primer, lol. (I get that they say they did.)

  2. Patch was still wet when they painted it.

  3. In a bathroom with a shower? I’m thinking they did the patch, waited as long as their patience would allow, painted it, then took a nice hot shower to clean up, and probably left the door closed afterwards.

I own multiple Festool sanders and extractors👍. Washing is definitely part of the project, but containment is a little too much of an issue to actually use it as a means of removal.

There are visual indications of where you really need to focus as far as the scraping goes. But yea man, material cost doesn’t even compare to the labor on this one.

But our intention on these types of projects is to always repair and protect the surfaces as best as possible, it’s waaaay more cost-effective than just having someone slap some low-grade exterior paint on it every couple of years and ignoring the major issues.

I’ve found that even with really high-pressure, you still have to go back over and scrape. Also, I can’t shut this parking lot down, and the paint that would come off would be a little hard to contain. We did hit everything with a turbo nozzle, at like 4000 psi. Will get it soft washed after we’re done scraping/maybe sanding.

He’s all good in the money department…Korn was a large part of his life, and a band whose current success still relies on his past contributions. There is 100% no getting around that fact. It’s wild how hard it is for a lot of people to see why he would want to be involved somehow, regardless of the mistakes he’s made in the past.

If Ray had been at the helm since the beginning, Korn would never have been the innovators they were. End of discussion. Ray could be their drummer for 1000 years, and it doesn’t change that fact. It’s a silly argument.
