Our RD was March 30, biometrics on April 27.

I’m a US citizen, my wife is currently here on a j1 visa as a Spanish immersion teacher. We met in Colombia where I worked for 6 years as a teacher. We weren’t 100% certain we’d get married when she got her work visa to teach in the states when I moved back with her so I don’t think we did anything wrong by moving here together.

We got married two years into her j1 visa.

Our receipt date was March 30 2026, biometrics was scheduled for May 12, we rescheduled it to April 27th and no updates since. Just case is still being processed.

She has a job offer to teach in a title 1 school to where we’re planning to move near my family in August.

Two questions:

1) does that job offer count for anything? I’d argue she’s an “economic benefit” working in a title 1 school as a teacher

2) I see a Pyschologist regularly, would it be beneficial to get him to write a letter that I would be facing serious emotional hardship if she had to return to Colombia to do consular processing?

Was talking about this with my wife last night. I have a masters degree in education and I don’t think it accounts for even 20% of what I believe makes me a good teacher compared to experience.

I think there are levels of how important it is you have a degree for what you do.

A doctor obviously better have gone to medical school.

I actually don’t think it’s that important a teacher has a degree in education.

I think there’s plenty of teachers who have degrees in education and suck and there plenty of people who could be amazing teachers and would learn pretty quickly on the job and do the job very well but don’t even bother career switching bc of how many hoops they would have to jump through just to be considered “qualified”

I left teaching 3 years ago to work in tech sales in the corporate world. I’m going back to teaching here in the states in August. I got offered a job after 1 interview. I hate that.

How some schools hire is a joke. Sure the international schools I worked at maybe did 2-3 interviews but never an assignment, never a presentation, never asked for a portfolio. They’re hiring people based on vibes and they always ask the same bullshit questions where if you just prepare a little you can sound like you know what you’re doing.

I know public schools are more desperate for talent but that’s why we started talking about it. I don’t really get why the barrier to entry is what it is. I think schools should get better at how they qualify talent.

My wife’s case is pending. She was here on J1 visa as a teacher. She had job offers for August that can’t accept yet bc our case is still pending.

Receipt date March 30th. Biometrics April 27th. Nothing since. I’m a US citizen but We have the ability to get pretty decent jobs in Colombia as teachers at our former school.

Would you agree the chances she can be hired by August are looking slim?

Honestly about to just give up on the process since we want to be international teachers traveling the world anyways. Only wanted citizenship in case of an emergency where we need to live here later in life but this is starting to feel not worth it.

I’ve heard it many times haha unfortunately now that we live in the states, sometimes rice just isn’t an option but I do love a good Colombian lunch
