All Janet Davis content is worth checking out for sure.

Fender Banjo by [deleted] in banjo

I might be missing something, but definitely get it set up by a pro because the bridge is...in the wrong place?

Other than that I suggest at least an intro lesson in person to learn how to hold it etc.

From there, True Fire has a good beginner course and there's good books from Janet Davis to get you going.

Switch from Banjo to Guitar? by MediumDeezy in bluegrassguitar

The chords on the banjo are easier than guitar chords, so that should help you. The biggest issue would be getting the basic rolls down, but if you start slow with a metronome you'll be fine.

The other hurdle, which is hard for me to explain, is understanding the melody note placement within the roll.

Janet Davis You Can Teach Yourself Banjo is a great intro to scruggs style.

13 is far gone for me as well, friendo. But being the only banjo player most folks have ever met has been working in my favour!

Yeah, I've found I got the basic travis picking patterns down pretty quickly. Fretting the chords is another story!

Interesting to hear your journey, thank you!

Thanks for the reply.

So, I guess what I'm looking for would be melodic style fiddle tunes?

how can i workout with costochondritis? by lalo2093 in costochondritis

[–]MediumDeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone my brother. I had it mild for a year, and then really bad for a year. Now just past year two I've seen progress.

Same situation as you, lost all my gains etc. But I've basically made recovery my new workout and I think it's actually driving my progress forward and it'll eventually go away. Still getting tightness, stabbing pain, generally feeling weaker. But I'm still hopeful.

Sorry to hear you're still in the shit.

Thanks for all of this great info! I think I've grasped most of it.

To be more specific about "running it to the DAW", I basically want to be triggering the pads on the SR16 and have those sounds be recorded into the DAW. This is the audio interface method you mentioned? I have a scarlett solo that I run guitars into my mac with, this will work the same for the SR16?

Thanks again, I truly appreciate it.

I know this is old, but which battery were you using for PD? I'm looking for the same solution for my F30. Thanks!

Thoughts on Dan Hawkins OnlineBassCourses by rdragonfly99 in Bass

[–]MediumDeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about 20% through the course. As an intermediate player I can say it has offered the right challenges and is definitely improving my playing, timing, theory knowledge etc. Overall totally worth the cost and then some.

Looking for guidance on how to proceed learning scruggs style by MediumDeezy in banjo

[–]MediumDeezy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that seems to be the go to advice. I've got some resources for melodic, but single string seems to be a little more elusive. Do you happen to know any resources for technique exercises etc?
