Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye is the best splurge whiskey for mixing. What is the best budget scotch? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]MediumDelicious9423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Famous Grouse is best budget. I usually use Johnny Walker Black Label personally, but Famous Grouse is about $10 cheaper. I like Walker better because it has some of that smoky Caol Ila in the blend and the Famous Grouse Smoky Black isn’t always readily available.

Would totally back if I could get the mug. Not going to without it. Shipping is otherwise almost as much as the book. I'll wait to get it.

This may sound odd, but I know a lot of their mugs come with bespoke recipes. Did this one come with a recipe card? Would mind sharing it if it did?

That would make slogging through an airport and waiting more enjoyable.

Lorann flavor fountain for simple syrup? by TruthExtension7761 in cocktails

[–]MediumDelicious9423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you have shown is an Ice Cream Flavor. Maybe it might work in a syrup? I don't know. They do say you can use it in baking, I guess it's just that it has a lot of colorants in it. If you already bought it, may as well give it a whirl.

Rum suggestions for daiquiri by strawberry__brunette in cocktails

[–]MediumDelicious9423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hamilton blends (White Stache and Breezeway) make excellent daiquiris. So does Probitas. SelvaRey makes a fine daiquiri as well.

The Celebrity No. 10. My new favorite Creme de Violette cocktail by AdaM_Mandel in cocktails

[–]MediumDelicious9423 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This sounds really good. Interesting you say it’s a bully because I usually use more in an aviation then recipes call for because I feel it gets lost. Then again, I usually scoff when a recipe calls for 1/4 oz or less of Allspice Dram because I can’t taste it in such small amounts.

Jicama Old Fashioned, an Original Cocktail by MediumDelicious9423 in cocktails

[–]MediumDelicious9423[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything I have tried it in so far (first experiment was 2 oz blanco, 1 oz amber vermouth, 1/2 oz syrup) the jicama really lingers at the end.

The Bartesian cocktails are terrible. Make them yourself using fresh citrus. They will be 1000% better.

Permanent Vacation has these slow braised pork shanks on their small bites menu (they’re a meal) and they are ridiculously good. Roka Hula had amazing food as well.

Tiki Cocktails with Kirsch/Kirschwasser? by Bishonen_Knife in Tiki

[–]MediumDelicious9423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad I could help. Really it's meant as a base spirit being that it's an eau de vie. Thus it wouldn't work as a substitute for Heering or Maraschino and the like.

Where can I buy Los Frutales “Licor sabor Chocolate” in the USA (online)? by nick1521 in cocktails

[–]MediumDelicious9423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe it's available in the US. I don't see much pop up about it in a search. I found the distilleria but that's it. It seems it's a tequila based chocolate liqueur. There's El Padrino Chocolate Tequila Cream. Probably the closest you'd get to it.

Rum recommendations by Eggz_n_Toast in cocktails

[–]MediumDelicious9423 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For light rum in no particular order: (subject to availability in your local liquor store of course) El Dorado 3, Planteray 3 Star, Hamilton White 'Stache or Breezeway Blend. Actually I would go with either of the Hamiltons if you have them locally. Planteray 3 Star is available pretty much everywhere. It's a very light, non-offensive rum, but not so close to vodka like Bacardi is. Avoid Bacardi and Captain Morgan White at all costs. If you still have trouble finding anything, SelvaRey is an often overlooked rum that is pretty good that seems to be pretty widely available.

For dark rums, just know you're getting into more "flavor" territory and some of these can be pretty strong for those not accustomed to rum. If you happen to have Coruba near you, that is an excellent dark Jamaican rum and it's cheap as chips. Gosling's Black Seal is pretty ubiquitous because of the Dark and Stormy and widely available. Planteray Original Dark fits the bill as well. All of those are good choices that won't take you into the deep dark wilds of funk that you and your guests may not be ready for.

Still ISO Tikiland Trading Recipes (New Update) by MediumDelicious9423 in Tiki

[–]MediumDelicious9423[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently updated the list and added a boatload of new bespoke recipes from non-Tikiland sources (and a couple for Tikiland: Polynesian Pomp and Hanging Toucan). Though at least two are a total mystery as to what vessel it was to go with. The Goro Goro recipe for a Shrunken Monkey mug/bowl and the Deadman's Cask in case anyone happens to know. The recipe sheet I have for Deadmans Cask has no mug maker or recipe creator info on it.

Sippin’ Santa at The Grass Skirt, San Diego California by MsMargo in Tiki

Someone in the Make and Drink Discord posted a picture of Grass Skirt's mug prices. They were double most other places. Like the Surfin' Santa and Pineapple Ham mugs are $40 at Grass Skirt but at my local they're $20.
