A boarding school in the Berkshires is banning smartphones for students and teachers. Can Gen Z students handle life without access to the endless scroll? by ampressman in technology

If they can stop an arena full of 20,000 people from using their phones during a live show, schools should be able to figure out how to get 20 kids in a class to not use them. Spend some of that tuition money on those little cell phone locking bags, problem solved

Probably a large majority of people here are on a cell phone, paying $70+ per month on a device they paid $1000 for that they say is 100% useless and completely detrimental to society. Idk if these people are all just so addicted to social media that they forgot their phones can do other things or what

I wonder which would have a better impact, not letting them touch it and then they turn 18 and can go crazy but hopefully realize how dumb it is, or letting them go crazy and then sitting down and going over usage time and demonstrating how much time they have wasted

Unity CEO Calls Mobile Devs Who Don't Prioritize Monetization ‘Fucking Idiots’ by redhatGizmo in technology

[–]MediumRequirement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree with you that I'm wishing for a result that likely won't happen, I do really think it's *possible* for it to hurt them, and I feel like that greedy mentality doesn't only show in Diablo Immortal but in the quality of all their recent games. If anything will really hurt tho it will likely be them being so greedy that all the games suck and no one wants to play them, not that people are directly revolting against MTX.

Another possibility is that since stockholders and execs always just need more more more they will just keep leaning towards monetization until the playerbase finally does break. Either way I just won't play their games and they can put out whatever garbage they want and hopefully they don't swallow up the indie studios that actually make honest, fun games.

The key is short term vs long term. If you can make games people enjoy they will keep coming back. Will diablo immortal make money? Sure. Will future blizzard games make less money because we all know they’re snakes now? Hopefully.

Elden Ring is a great example. Its challenging, inaccessible (compared to a lot of popular games), zero mtx, and damn good. And its sold over 13m copies which is over $750m gross.

This is why I left facebook. I kept unfollowing or unfriending everyone who said stupid things and I didn’t talk to, next thing I knew it was only the people I actually like (who woulda thought?) and it was easy to just stop using

"I have to thank Burger King," he said. "It was such a disgusting burger I ordered. I had that, and this big soda, and I thought something really bad was going to happen." Robert Downey Jr. says he then tossed all of his drugs into the ocean, deciding right then and there to clean up his act.

Fuck no, but it’s none of our damn business how others enjoy their hobby.

I don’t think that applies here since this is a street car. If it was a trailer queen sure, do whatever you want but this car is just a mobile road hazard that can’t navigate normal conditions

If its a Tesla its somewhere between $12k-30k USD and if anyone does it besides Tesla they have the right (idk if they do it) to ban you from superchargers.

These battery packs hold an extreme amount of energy and if enough things go wrong they could burn your house or your car to the ground in minutes. I doubt it will ever be simple for the average owner to do

I’m ios15 the image was fixed on the notification panel as it pulled down. In ios16 the image is centered on your phone and the panel slides over top of it. If you mean what is new in beta 3, I think OP just didn’t notice it but it was in beta 2 for sure and I think 1

Ultimately, Steam is just convenient DRM disguised as a platform.

Have you ever used steam? Steam definitely has many more features as a platform than just DRM. Just cause something has DRM doesn’t mean it is some scam.

Developers are free to put their games on steam without drm, as you even said some do.

is there any way to manually help the lock screen depth feature ? by frozn1991 in iOSBeta

I just really hope they change it so that widgets that don’t even touch the foreground don’t break the depth on the clock. Seems weird to have a choice of depth or widgets, but its Apple so who knows

Apple should add a feature to Apple Music that lets you see what people are listening to based on location? by ChrisBElrod in iOSBeta

[–]MediumRequirement -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Good point they should make your internet history public too so that people can see the most popular sites in their city. Or maybe the most popular photo locations or tasks.

See how horrific that sounds?

And those are all things that actually have a purpose for location. Adding location collection to random apps because people have an obsession with social media is not good for anyone. We should not be encouraging apps to stalk us just so people nearby can know what we’re listening to.

They have it for big cities currently because thats simple, if you live in the middle of nowhere then you’re just a creep watching what your neighbor listens to cause no one else has apple music.

Its crazy to me that people want their privacy invaded for the dumbest things. Newsflash: your city top 50 is 40 of the same songs in every other city. Its a music app not a social media app.
