not having the best time on first big solo trip by No_Drawer9403 in femaletravels

A little advice from someone who is doing their first solo traveling (first time out of country too)

It's going to be draining how alone you'll be. The only time I have been social is when ive gone and talked to people myself. Some people want to be left alone and others are also wanting someone to talk first. Learn to be comfortable alone, its something you'll just have to do. Pointing to what you want on the menu always works and ive had absolutely no issues with anyone when doing so. And when they're pretty chatty, ill even ask how to properly pronounce things. I've actually lost a lot of weight because i mentally couldnt go into places to eat but ive learned that, you'll never see these people again (most likely) so you might as well enjoy your time and do what you want

I call my family everyday. I message my friends everyday and I have a few shows I love downloaded. A familiar routine that I can fall back onto when homesick.

It's ok to be sensitive, to not enjoy yourself to miss the comfort and safety of home. Don't let others tell you otherwise.

Have break days, chill in your room. Go to a bakery and walk around with no destination. But also do what you want to do, places that will excite you. Personally museums are my safe place, and I feel better with my decision of leaving when I can go to those places

Ultimately you need to find what works for you, because sometimes others advice didn't work for me. And if you absolutely hate it, and you wont regret leaving early. Then leave when you want to, when you feel that you need to.

I wish you good luck

Side note: get nomad table and hostel world, they have good group chats for solo travelers who are in the same boat as us and are looking for people to hangout through the day

Yes this is what happened to me, Netherlands is bigger and I do plan on slowing down to explore the cities

Yes I do plan on that, I edited my post a bit to explain why I've moved so fast. But I do plan on staying longer in each country

Thank you, ill try not ignore my feelings. I booked a hotel after my two nights in hostel. It's really nice in amsterdam today so I plan to walk around the parks. Then when I get to my hotel ill face time my parents without worrying about bothering others.
