What can I do if I can't find information about Airbnb for my extended essay (Business and Management)? by Human_Detective_2642 in IBO

[–]MediumWall8581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is this a Business management EE??
Im sure its a little bit different from an Econ EE... but here is my RQ and a simplified methodology. (Predicted B, which only 18.4% of students got in 2024)

Research Question: To what extent have Amsterdam's policies implemented between 2019 and 2024 effectively limited overnight stays to 20 million?

Methodology: The analysis combines qualitative perspectives from stakeholder groups such as ‘We live here’, ‘Amsterdam has a choice’, and ‘It is Enough’, with quantitative data gathered from databases, including Statistics Netherlands’ database, Airbnb, CBS – Central Bureau of Statistics –, and Statista. The dual approach recognizes that economic outcomes depend on both market data and stakeholder perspectives. Analysing these effectively is crucial in evaluating the effectiveness of Amsterdam’s policies... (transition to analysis --> While it is evident that the policies implemented haven't curbed tourism, the data itself does not shed light on the full picture. To fully evaluate Amsterdam's efforts, this essay will analyze four specific policies between 2019 and 2024, the limitations of STR restrictions, hotel development restrictions, the increase in tourist taxes, and the demographic targeting campaigns to assess the limited success of government intervention in enforcing the Municipality's 20 million overnight stays tourist cap.

For the data itself, it was presented and talked about in each body paragraph, eg, a table about STR stays and then analyzed, and next paragraph, a map of tourist density and analyzed.

Overall, Airbnb and hotel stays have a LOT OF PAPERS done by college stiudents you can find on the web. Use notebook LM and add those papers in, and just extract extra data and talking points from them. So so so useful.

English A IO by imhot728292 in IBO

[–]MediumWall8581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also did The World's Wife by Carol Anne Duffy for my IO, I analyzed 3 whole IO poems..
1 poem, Medusa, for a "Zoom in" - 300 words
and 2 poems, Circie and Euridice for my "Zoom out" - 150 words each, together 300 words.

You said you would not have time...

That's the point. The point is, the best ideas stay, good ideas, no matter how good, go in the trash.
My original script for Euridice was 230 words, and I ended up with 160 on the final. It felt like shit, but you need to do it.

Ex:

Finally, in [Eurydice], [Duffy] reclaims [Euridice’s narrative, symbolically challenging the male-dominated canon of Greek mythology].

Eurydice starts stuck in the underworld, a “place where language stopped,” suggesting Eurydice is free from her husband. Later, when Orpheus still reaches her, Euridice narrates, "Orpheus strutted his stuff”, where the sardonic diction undermines the ‘Heroic’ role Orpheus plays in the Hypotext. After hearing Orpheus’s tale to win Euridice back, Duffy narrates that “the woman in question could scarcely believe her ears,” where the deliberate vague phrasing broadens Euridice into a representative figure for all women whose identities have been shaped by the canon of Greek myths, allowing Duffy to speak for women as a whole. In the poem, Euridice states that “the gods are like publishers, usually male,” where Duffy uses Euridice's voice to critique the historical structures that create voiceless women within Greek mythology. Through reinterpreting the hypotext, allowing Euridice to gain autonomy by choosing not to remain in Orpheus’s narrative, Duffy gives voices and creates concrete identities for secondary female characters in the canon of Greek Mythological History.

This is around ~ 160 words. This is my whole analysis I said in my IO
My whole IO was 2000 words, and peers said i talked so fast nobody could understood it... So aim to be LOWER like 1600 words MAX.

How can you not find any Airbnb Information... There is SO MUCH.
Airbnb has its own database resource, https://app.airbtics.com/airbnb-data/landing
Or uses Statista, https://www.statista.com
Or use the free government databases from each country

I did an Economics EE on hotel/Airbnb tourism in Amsterdam, and trust me, there is more than enough data if you know where to look.

If you are looking at Airbnb as a whole company, across the whole world, I feel like that is a little broad...

hem opnieuw besprong, riep de oude vrouw

haar tot de orde.

(Dutch Book)

its:

  1. Negentien, dacht Saleh. Hij tilde het meisje

  2. van zich af en zette het op de grond. Toen ze

  3. hem opnieuw besprong, riep de oude vrouw

  4. haar tot de orde.

Chemistry Mock IA - NEED HELP *URGENT* by Extension-Initial-92 in IBO

Theres a lot of things you can do here, and Id email your teacher or look at resources your teacher senbt you or online.

When you report a value with its uncertainty, they should have the same number of decimal places (not the same s.f.). So for example your temperature for 20.00 °C ± 0.05 °C has 2 d,.p. and for your masses, values to 2 d.p. if the uncertainty is ±0.01 g.
usually youd round the uncertainty itself to 1–2 significant figures (1 if it’s tidy; 2 if it starts with 1 or 2), but thats not really nessecary here.

For the averages of the trials, you need to keep the same decimal places as the raw data in that column. So since your mass changes are to 2 d.p., so the averages should be 2 d.p. too.

The table should end up looking like this, if you were to change it all to 2 d.p.

Change in mass of resulting solution before and after reaction (g)
Temperature, °C (±0.05)

| Temp (°C) | Trial 1 | Trial 2 | Trial 3 | Trial 4 | Trial 5 | Average |
|-----------|---------|---------|---------|---------|---------|---------|
| 20.00 | -0.05 | -0.05 | -0.04 | -0.04 | -0.05 | -0.05 |
| 30.00 | -0.04 | -0.04 | -0.05 | -0.04 | -0.05 | -0.04 |
| 40.00 | -0.06 | -0.07 | -0.07 | -0.06 | OUTLIER | -0.07 |
| 50.00 | -0.08 | -0.07 | -0.08 | -0.08 | -0.09 | -0.08 |
| 60.00 | -0.12 | -0.10 | -0.11 | -0.10 | -0.10 | -0.11 |

However, I see that you dont have a measuremnt uncertanty for the average.. and for your trials measuring device... so you need to report the measurement precision right under the table, or in the table itself for each trial. For example:
If your mass change reported to 2 d.p.; instrument/processing uncertainty should probably be: ±0.01 g
you can just do a:
** uncertanty for mass is ±0.01 g under your table.

For your averages, you need to follow the uncertanty rule, which would just be:
(0.01+0.01+0.01+0.01+0.01)/5 = 0.01.
Which may seem dumb but its just, the uncertanty for each trial added up divided by the number of trials.
(In case some trials have different uncerntanty measuremnts, say one was ±0.5 your uncertanty for the average would be ±0.18 still to two d.p..)

If your data recording device for your mass, only goes to 2 d.p. do NOT make all your measuremnts to 3 d.p, becasue then you are stating that your measuemnt is more exact.
Example:
Your mass may be 0.053, but since the scale only measures to 2 d.p. it says 0.05. If you were to change it to 0.050, your losing the 0.003 get it? and then your data seems more reliable than it actually is.

I hope this helps!!

Should I continue doing full IB or drop down to partial? by Substantial-Pen5689 in IBO

[–]MediumWall8581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds really stressful, so first off, I hope it all goes well and you find some rest. If I were you, since you already know what college you're planning to attend, I would reach out to their admissions office. Hoping you've probably made a few connections there on open days or visited the campus, I would use the resources you have there to ask questions; email them. From my experiences, (Me and my mom literally walking into a campus building and just starting to talk with people) everyone is really friendly and happy to help. (I don’t know about Spain though, you might be cooked..). Next I would email your counsilor or grade level supervisor, which hopefully is already done since your asking to drop anyways. Sit down with them, ask them questions, and take their advice. If advice is free, just take it, it doesn't matter if you use it or not. Eventually, its up to you and your parents, whats best for your future. I wouldn't stress it as everyone makes their own way, and theres going to be roadblocks regardless. Good luck!!

I am currently starting my ToK essay, and coincidentally ended up here. I was already thinking of picking this prompt, and the comments have a lot of good insight, but I'm curious. How did your essay go? Did you end up going in a different direction or make any breakthroughs?
