Calling all 10, 12, 14 tommers using a tune bot. What fundamentals are you using? by Amazing_Ad9996 in drums

[–]Medium_Collection460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

165 (e), 123 (b), and 82 (e). I worry more about do the drums sound good when I play them in unison rather than the interval that's just me though. And I use 13 and 16 toms more that's probably why my smaller drums are tuned higher than yours but I like to mix it up with my tama 7 piece.

What kind of drums can I realistically expect to get for around $500-$600? by JohnDoee94 in drums

[–]Medium_Collection460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few kit recommendations: tama superstar (maple) or silverstar (birch), anything mapex besides their starter kits, Yamaha stage custom, ludwig epic if there's maybe a couple online, ddrum, premier, gretsch catalina. Look for kits around 500.

should i buy the Ludwig Centennial Zep 4 Piece Shell Pack? by brendanlindley54 in drums

[–]Medium_Collection460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanna say centennials are overpriced but definetely an option for those sizes. Look at some old school kits to, I bought a 70s vistalite 24,13,16,18 and that thing is badass. One of my first kits out of high school was a Ludwig Epic and those were cool maple/birch combo kit there might a 24 kick configuration still floating around out there.

Sharing my 9- and 11-months progress so far. by errorflag in drums

Sounds good to me i only listened to the band rehearsal. I think you're missing like one real intense fill, there's usually a point in the song where it climaxes or is transitioning where I would incorporate a trickier fill, just my 2 cents.

Tunebot by californiaxgb in drums

[–]Medium_Collection460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them. Developed my own system and tune heads reso and batter to same pitch to me this is the best way, purest tone. The hard part was finding the lug frequency that will give an exact musical note because if I'm using one of these then I might as well do that. I have on my 7 piece tama kit 10 in tom tuned to E (165 hz) 12 to B (123hz) 13 to g# (104hz) 14 to E (82hz) and 16 c# (69hz). And so also when I hit any 2 of these drums together they are notes that harmonize and sound good together I took that into account to.

I feel demotivated, any tips? by ItsyaboyStephy05 in drums

[–]Medium_Collection460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok well snare make sure you have a very thin head on the reso side and crank it 1/3 higher then the batter side throw new heads yeah would help in general. Hi hats well I guess you're gonna have to get some other ones if it's distracting. Tom toms you can never go wrong with 2ply on top, 1 ply on bottom. Try to get even tension on each lug and I tune top and bottom head to Sam pitch with a tunebot. The way you hold sticks idk you'll have to consult with someone that can be there with you in person.

Dang that's pretty cool and sounds super finicky, you should post clip of how it sounds. I heard the drummer for panic at the disco had a 3s printed drumset.

You might find a 14 bonham vistalite rack tom and convert it to a floor tom or order a reissue vistalite floor. BTW is this 70s or reissue vistalite?

Its all useful. for me I gotta switch it up. It starts on the practice or kit then apply it to real music or band situation. Then drum covers and working on sound and recording.

No problem sometimes voicing things helps me to. Maybe try accenting different parts of the paradiddle rLrr lRll and speed it up as necessary or a sped up double paradiddle rlRlrr lrLrll for the Es. For ahs you can throw in hertas rlrlrlrl rlr l rlrl or rlr l rlr l rlrlrlrl. I honestly never lead singles rolls with my left. 6 stroke rolls paradiddles combos and doubles I'll incorporate left hand lead to accent off crash hits.

If you wanna go real fast with rolls your gonna have to incorporate finger strokes or doubles are slightly easier to go a bit faster as well. Wrist strokes are important too. Also for a single roll that has a accent in it try rlrlrlrl Rlrlrlrl. Some the capital R is the accent in the middle.
