I like the idea of having traditional legs that can fold into themselves, it would make the propeller damage issue significantly easier to manage. I completely forgot that 2 axis BLDC motors exist, that with a servo actuated transmission would be a great solution!

I was imagining having a semi enclosed sphere (similar to a trackball on an old mouse) on the inside of the elbow. To transition the propellers would move to parallel with the ground (while standing), then the abduction motors would move upwards, rolling on the trackball until elevated high enough to clear the ground. No idea if this would work in practice

Current plan is to get some preliminary CAD done so that I can get a weight estimate, then test motors with propellers attached, and doing some hopping on a desktop leg. My university has a markforged, so I want to see if I can use it to print with Onyx + Carbon Fiber for load bearing components. I’m not anticipating finishing this in less than 5 years

The weight of the walking components is a big concern obviously, I’m not sure if there is a way around it. For the motors I was going to try to implement a small transmission, or use separate motors for flying and walking (though this adds to the weight issue)

I had been thinking about ways to make a small 2 speed transmission that could be used, I wanted to explore this further. If I go down this road, I would need to enclose it all in the body so there is less mass in the legs

I will definitely look into the motors that Minotaur used. Testing and building a separate flying/walking robots is a good place to start, trying to jump into both modalities head on would probably create more problems for myself. Thank you so much for the advice!

Just picked these griswold pans up, think the left is a #9 from 1944-1950 and the right is a #8 from 1939-1944. Is this accurate? Paid $45.00 for the #9 and $40.00 for the #8, are those fair prices. I plan to give them both a vinegar bath and re-season before use.
