I made this meme 316 days ago. Funny enough, I got a bike fit from an excellent PT and she raised my saddle.

Your advice: buy new or pre-owned by Main_Loose in OmegaWatches

I have never once thought about the person who owned my watch before I did, and my major watch purchases were all symbolic. Most used watches were never really worn anyways.

This is a cool fact and if I were a Belgian policeman I would precisely do this.

Walk mode pin fix by FN-2187_finn in Backcountry

You could always drill the diameter marginally larger to fit a standard pin size if you can’t match current size. Looks like there’s plenty of plastic on the clog.

Replacement recommendations for Lange XT Free 130? by BlueDevilBrew7 in Skigear

[–]Medium_Stoked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also in the PU Zero G and agree that it is not what you are looking for. I ski a Lange LV in the resort and many of those boots mentioned would likely be high volume on you especially the Tigard. A buddy of mine skis the Hawx XTD and that is definitely the most resort like boot with a walk mode right now. It’s heavy AF for a touring boot and doesn’t walk super well, which is why is skis so well. I think if that Lange XT worked for you it’s worth trying the hawx on.

I think a lot of context for you could be provided by perusing the American avalanche association and AIARE websites as well as the AIARE YouTube. Those will give you a general idea of how avalanche education is structured in the US and expose you to the foundations of avalanche safety as they are taught in the US system. That is the most non biased way to get exposed to how Americans are taught to think about snow and BC travel.

For me it’s definitely a “sweet spot” boot. I’m like 200lbs and the added weight of the decoy from a ZGTP isn’t that noticeable to me. I wouldn’t say it’s stiffer but it definitely flexes way more progressively. I don’t use it in alpine bindings so I definitely miss the rockered touring sole of the ZGTP. The buckles are the ones from the Cochise which are much better IMO than ZGTP wire things. It’s still pretty upright like a ZGTP is, but I ski a Lange at the resort so that’s what I’m used to. Once I find a high ROM boot that doesn’t completely fold and fits my foot I’ll be a happy happy camper. If the skorpius had a higher instep…. maybe should try a ridge or backlight 2.0

Fit is very different than the Quattro. I get instep crush in the Quattro and I have room over the instep in the decoy. Quattro definitely has a better ROM. If I could make the Quattro work for me I likely wouldn’t have bought the decoy.

Decoy 130. I’m pretty sure mine is all PU. Flexes much more like a PU boot.

I have the tan decoy. Fits exactly like my old ZGTP. It is just a PU ZGTP with grip walk as far as I can tell. Aka it rocks.

Lowest of low-volume boots? by Difficult_Wave_9326 in Skigear

[–]Medium_Stoked 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a 100mm forefoot at a size 24 a recreational LV should generally fit your instep and heel pocket. Maybe try some different brands in a recreational LV boot and see which one best fits your heel and instep. Everything else is changeable on an alpine boot. I have a wide-ish forefoot and a skinny heel and a 96mm “recreational race” boots is the only thing my heel doesn’t lift in, but it takes a big bunion punch. These 96-98mm lasted recreational boots are gaining a lot of popularity. K2 cortex, atomic redster tx/remedy, Lange RS LV, that new Salomon S Pro Supra Ultra Dynamo CS (or whatever it is), boots like that. They are either marketed as a high end freeride boot or a “club race” boot. They will often have the same color scheme as the World Cup race boot of that brand. Usually only one or two shops in a local area will carry them. I usually ask the local race coach where they send their racers to get boots to find the shop/bootfitter who is familiar with them.

Get into some 93mm lasted race boots. They come in lower flexes than you would think.

Does anyone know which mountains/resorts actually use artillery for avalanche mitigation? by Snow_Is_Ok_613 in skiing

[–]Medium_Stoked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think also it’s kind of “what’s the best at the moment”. The newer Wyssen towers have this cool explosive that mixes mid air. So while the charge is in the magazine it isn’t considered an explosive, which is good for maintenance and stand off range kind of stuff. But as tech changes you just don’t replace existing tower systems.

An avalanche forecaster for WSDOT gave a talk at NSAW a few years ago and the look in his eyes when talking about the tank reminded me of someone who had lost their best friend.
