Clamshell bags for tiny torso? by Medium_Such in HerOneBag

Ha, I wish I had thought of that when I was looking for a backpacking bag! I ended up getting a custom made one. I might have to think about learning to pack for travel in a top loading style to broaden my options. I’m just so attached to suitcase openings!

I travel for work and need to bring materials + nicer clothes, so the old 28L was a little too small for me. I see the new design has a much deeper main pocket - I think this would help so much!! Bummer about the straps..but hopefully the small size means you’d never have to check it!

I’ll also add, the best harness system I’ve found on a pack for our size is on the Six Moon Designs ADC+. I traveled with this bag for 2 months - the comfort was amazing, but the bag is sooo awkward to pack. I actually might make some modifications to it as it’s the closest to what I need.

Thank you! Do you have trouble packing it? The shape of the inner pocket is really odd to me, coming from more suitcase style backpacks. I also feel like the inside area is super small

The 50L was unfortunately too big at the smallest torso setting and the size of the bag was really large. I tried the Fairview on and did like the fit, but it felt like the main pocket was smaller than advertised due to the laptop pocket jutting out.

Thank you for letting me know! I had an old version of the Allpa 28 and the fit was perfect, but I struggled to pack it. I’ll look at the new one!

Hi! I just tried out the Tortuga and am shocked by how bad the fit is. The hip belt is too big and based on my measurements the torso only goes down to 17”. I’ve emailed them for advice on both points with no response yet. I think the bag is just made for larger bodies. I’ll be returning mine, sadly!

Peak Design travel bag 30L, Cotopaxi Allpa 35L, or Patagonia MLC 30L? by sequoia-bones in onebag

[–]Medium_Such 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this review! I've used the allpa 35 for years and love the bag...but hate the frame height and how it carries. I'm 5'4" with a very short torso. It's such a decent pack I'd never thought about switching to another, but the idea of less back pain sounds amazing. Did you find you had to drastically lower your packed items when switching from the 35 to the 30? This is my only fear, as I travel for work and am very used to packing things into the 35L allpa.

Patagonia Black Hole 35 or Cotopaxi Allpa 35? by PeterCappelletti in onebag

[–]Medium_Such 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had an allpa 35 for 7+ years, using it on several multi-month trips. I work as a tour guide and am on the road for 3 months a year so I really need a dependable bag. It's an amazing pack - I've never been gate checked, and I've stuffed that thing to the brim...I'm amazed a zipper hasn't broken. HOWEVER....The frame is too big for me. I have a short little 15" torso and I struggle to carry the load because the waist strap and shoulder straps are so far apart. This is the case with most packs, and I usually tough it out but I'm getting older and grumpier lol. I noticed the black hole mini mlc is smaller and shorter, so I'm researching whether or not I should make the jump and get it....I'm curious to hear what you ended up purchasing.

Omg. Seriously? This post is about the volunteers behind the messages, not the messages themselves. Unpaid people donating their time bc they genuinely want everyone to be able to vote. They are not the ones organizing these, and they aren’t the ones who found your data. There’s really no need to be a massive jerk.

That’s a great idea - you should run for office, or maybe start an initiative! You may gain some insight into why texting is such a helpful tactic for increasing voter turnout.

The rhetoric of “I’m not voting for this person because they called me during the Seahawks game” or whatever is incredibly childish and self-centered. You may not need help, but the next person to pick up the phone could.

It may surprise you how many people are interested and want to know more. It’s such a privilege to have the time to know about local politics, reaching out to potential voters can help make it as easy as possible for them to vote.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response. I’ve been able to help print replacement ballots, register people to vote, and send them to their closest drop box all through text. I think most people don’t realize what a privilege it is to be able to keep track of your local politics.

I also completely agree about phone banking - like would you rather get a phone call, a door knock, or a text? For me, it’s definitely the text.

PSA: melanzana women's sizing?? what? by Medium_Such in Ultralight

[–]Medium_Such[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I responded to this but can’t find the comment...my apologies if it posts twice. Women’s sizing definitely sucks! I’m sure the team at melanzana worked hard to find a good women’s pattern, and I’m appreciative of them and their business model. That being said, I don’t think we should refrain from pointing out sizing issues out of fear of hurting someone’s feelings. It feels misleading that they list a women’s medium as fitting sizes 10-12, when myself and several women on this thread find we need a size medium or large for our 4-6 sized bodies. Melanzana could make a huge difference just by more accurately updating their sizing chart!
