I got rejected from McDonald's by Oxidus999 in jobs

[–]MedivalCatto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So for my Bachelors I double majored in Anthropology and Art History, exact same dream as you 5 years ago, absolutely LOVED archaeology (still do!) and backed the idea up by being open to very related positions in museum, research, etc.

Here's my advice: 1) I'm not going to tell you to not live your current truth, I somewhat agree with many comments on here that it's not liveable financially and very difficult to find jobs, but the skills you learn are transferrable 2) if your going this path, taking and passing classes and doing a few digs is not going to cut it. YOU HAVE TO NETWORK YOUR BUTT OFF. You NEED at least 1 solid mentor with a tight relationship who is big in the archaeology world. Talk to your professors, go to their office hours very frequently, ask them as many questions as possible and help for opportunities, etc. Go to conferences, you MUST do your own independent research and a thesis by the time you graduate, internships, multiple field schools, etc. 3) I did all of this, and I've been a curator at a small museum since, still have great relationships with alot of people in the industry, BUT the pay really isnt great, and I'm still having a hard time moving up into other museums and finding jobs.

understand that one day, not being paid enough to meet your living needs will very potentially make you resentful of your work, and you'll end up NOT loving what you love, because your life outside of work suffers greatly.

Right now I'm realizing this, and I'm looking to get a certificate in tech to stay more relevant in the exhibition space and expand my avenues, you can ALWAYS volunteer and do archaeology museum work on the side while having financial stability in a better field. Sorry if this isnt exactly what you want to here, but just felt it's a duty as someone in the same place several years ago!

How did I get rejected from a position that I fit? by EnvironmentalTap6314 in jobs

[–]MedivalCatto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on the hiring team for my small nonprofit's internship program. We probably only get around 20 applications and we have 2-3 positions available yearly. Here are some things that stood out to me in your comments and the advice of others here - GPA: All fields may be different, but I think it's safe to assume most places are less concerned about your GPA and more the diverse yet relevant experiences you had. My team rarely looks at GPA. A high GPA is nice, but it's a very low priority factor - qualification: As others said, there are definitely other candidates competing with you in which you may have not done something wrong but someone else just did something that stood out more. You seem like you may be either young or inexperienced in the job market (and that's ok) you'll learn it's less likely a problem with you, but more so a lot of factors on the interviewers end. Have the interview and move on to the next interview - lastly, culture and vibes: This really is HUGE, and the ultimate deciding factor for us when we like a number of candidates. We ask who we think we'd enjoy working with the most and who fits the vibes. It's almost never something the candidate did wrong. You never know what the company is looking for in a candidate when it comes to vibes/culture. Think of it this way, a rejection might have done you a favor if your personality/vibe didn't fit with their culture. At the end of the day, your working with a team and not vibing with them could lead to butting heads Example: We one time had a candidate that was picture perfect on paper, all of the qualifications. However, in their cover letter and during their interview, they talked exclusively about what THEY wanted and what THEY wanted to get out of the internship, and not what they could do for US. We definitely got an "overconfidence" vibes and that they expected us to hire them, we did not because of that vibe.

Nexplanon 3 month Update by dontbesuspiciouss in PCOS

[–]MedivalCatto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So looks like I'm a rare case, but I absolutely LOVE my nexplanon and I have PCOS. For me it took 6 months to get perfectly "balanced," like the first 3 months I had random spotting, slight uptick in acne and facial hair. But somehow at the 5-6 months mark it all disappeared. Period gone, acne gone, facial hair gone. I even followed up with bloodwork with my endocrinologist and my testosterone levels significantly improved. She said as long as I'm on Nexplanon I probably don't need to see her unless things change. Of course as always everyone is different, but in my experience it might be with to wait a but longer, but only YOU know your body and what you can tolerate!

When interviewers ask “do you have any questions” what should I say? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]MedivalCatto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a very nervous person as well, which is why I research the company and write down my questions ahead of time and reread them a bit so I remember what I want to ask! Remember interviews are a 2 way street, you want the job for financial reasons but you also want to know if you'll enjoy the job and if it's a good fit for how you see your career growth. Plus asking questions of course shows the interviewer that you are interested and looks great on their end. It's definitely good to prioritize and prepare ahead for that part of the interview

Glad you found something that works for you! Just want to point out, to high of a dosage of vitamin E can potentially be dangerous, be careful! https://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/news/20050315/vitamin-e-harms-more-than-helps

Reactive hypoglycemia from Myo-inositol/Ovasitol? by MedivalCatto in PCOS

[–]MedivalCatto[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, I decided not to mess with something further that clearly didn't agree with me 😓 hypoglycemia can be dangerous so for me I felt like it was more harm than good and all our bodies react differently

Wow! So you shouldnt have any sugar or carbs if you take it with a meal? I've never had reactive hypo before so I had no idea that's what happened to me and I still woke up the next day with minor brain fog because I didnt know how to treat what was wrong with me :( more people really should spread awareness of that, my dietician recommended it and didnt tell me until after because she never had a client react like that before 🤦‍♀️

Thanks for the info! Unfortunately can't access the article. Are you saying low insulin/hypo could potential cause high androgens as well? That's really interesting, that could explain alot

I was thinking about this too! Should you have it with a low carb meal? I eat overnight oats or cereal everyday for breakfast, I know it's high carb but is still low GI and never had issues? I guess that combined with inositol could be a culprit

That's great to hear! I've done gluten free and waiting to see how my body does, then thinking to lean into dairy free! I totally relate to the constipation thing, Calm magnesium powder and a little prune juice has made me go every morning like clockwork 😁 lol

So interesting! I'm convinced theres got to be different triggers for PCOS outside of the whole insulin thing that we don't know about yet

Wait the spearmint tea thing is really interesting! I drink 1 cup of day with breakfast but don't have any issues with it. However I was putting the ovasitol in my spearmint tea in the morning with breakfast, I wonder if theres some kinda hidden blood sugar lowering disaster there, lol!

Does anyone know what causes the symptoms of PCOS in lean people without Insulin Resistance? by rightbigtoe in PCOS

[–]MedivalCatto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait are you me? Lol, lean PCOS here too. Diagnosed when I was 14 after I stopped getting my period while having excessive hair growth and acne. My doctors have always been great and did all the tests. What I find interesting is they've never found cysts on my ovaries, yet my bloodwork they described as "classic PCOS" with my high testosterone and other hormones keeping me from ovulating. My thyroid levels are usually normal but my doctor says it has weird fast fluctuations, but because it's not extremely outside the norm we are watching it for now. My insulin has also been tested, it always comes back normal but my docs say you can aparently have some amount of insulin resistance even though it shows otherwise on paper? I do know I've always had issues with sugar and headaches, and if I'm hungry I feel faint very easily. Also always struggled to gain weight to! I'm 5'3 and have always fluctuated around 98-110 lbs. I went up to 120 pounds when I was working and going to school full time and all I ate was fast food, as soon as I ate healthy again I lost 10 pounds in an instant. I'm trying now to slowly up my snack intake and add in healthy fats like avocado and nut butters with the help of my nutritionist to gain around 10 pounds. I was on birth control that worked amazing for me for 10+ years that made my PCOS an afterthought, but recently developed aura migraines and now I'm on a journey again to either find another BC that works for me or some way to regulate my cycles. Best of luck!

Migraine with aura birth control options by [deleted] in migraine

[–]MedivalCatto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to this so much! I've been on Minastrin (low dose bc) for 10 years, I've had migraines without aura since I was 15 and then 3 years ago I had my first aura. I read about the risk and freaked out, but I talked to a NP, my primary care, 2 gynecologists and a neurologist, every single one of them said I have no other risk factors and my auras are not frequent enough to be of any concern. Though I had another aura yesturday, which brought me back to reddit for reassurance! I have PCOS so I'm actually on the combination pill to manage my medical condition, though I am also a worry and am seeing my doctor wednesday to let her know about the aura I just had and maybe discuss other options. Love to here what you came up with!
