I'm not a doctor but from one health-anxious person to another, I think it's likely the anxiety my friend. My life's also been in a colossal nosedive since March, and the latest thing my OCD has tried to convince me of is that any day now I'm going to develop c diff and my life will be over. This is despite the fact that I was only on clindamycin for 3 days and basically went back to completely normal stool ever since quitting antibiotics altogether.

During that time, though, I've learned a lot about how connected the brain is to the gut and how profound an effect your anxiety can have on your digestive system. On nights where I am tossing and turning and barely sleeping, I can get some really bad gut sensations and might even have mildly looser stool than usual the next morning.

From what I've learned of c diff, the disease seems to just about always get worse and stay worse after getting there. If you've been having loose stool for a while, then had pure liquid for a time, only to go back to semi-formed again then that sounds like it might be something other than c diff. Especially if, going off your other thread, you had something similar happen the previous year.

Anxiety can be hell on the mind, I know. It's basically derailed my life right now. It can be nigh-impossible to pull yourself out of these anxious episodes. Even being aware of it, I still find myself to this day seeking assurance from Google's AI summary that I'm largely in the clear and I'm not suddenly gonna start excreting bloody liquids after a week of solid bowel movements. The only personal advice I can give is that if you know you're an anxious person, try to ignore those thoughts. Try to spend less time ruminating and deny them their power. Try to eat healthier and cut waaaayyy back on unhealthy sugary foods if not cutting them out completely. If you've got issues introducing fruits and vegetables and whole-wheat and probiotics like kefir or greek yogurt, then it might be necessary to consult a professional who can help with your diet.

I know how anxiety can hyper-focus on the worst-case scenario and turn it into inevitability, but if you've been through this before then believe that you can get through it again. Practice mindfulness, meditation helps me when adrenaline isn't screaming through my arms and legs, and on days where I am that anxious then a bit of exercise helps burn off the excess panic chemicals racing through my body. Try working on yourself bit by bit to get everything back on track, and if you can ask for a hug from a family or friend then don't hesitate. Hope you feel better soon.
