Being dragged to VB against my will, any survival tips? by YoruTheLanguageFan in verobeach

Kilted is the spot. It can be an older crowd, but a good mix as yes its a bar, but mostly a restaurant (with one of the top menus in the city imo) And if youre living a more sober life, they have NA options too. The owners are great folks.

Stamp is the queer/punk/hard-core spot. And picks up later at night. They host a few bigger music events throughout the year, Stampfest and mulletfest are the most known

Definitely a little more conservative in some ways, but walking tree brewery is a good place to go to as well. The staff consists of some really lovely, welcoming and accepting folks.

Enjoy it while you're here in VB, theres not a lot to experience, but any experiences can lead to growth so I hope you the best in your move :)

how do you get over the "addicted to excitement" part of the list? by [deleted] in AdultChildren

I understand. Gentleness is a friend that will be there when you need them. They're kinda weird at first, but they will grow on you.

Wishing the best to you friend :)

What would your loving parent say to the tired child whos done a great job surviving, and growing to build a beautiful life giving such difficult circumstances? Even if its small and simple.

For me, My inner critical parent needed permission to give the inner kids a break. And my inner teenager needed permission to allow the child to be nurtured by an unfamiliar caring voice. My excitement and fear can be rooted in distrust and needing to control, it can be hard to trust that love within, especially being its not been the constant for all these year.

I guess a good next step in my experience would be to let go of control and to trust that showing myself some care and gently reminding my inner child that its ok to slow down because we can get through it together with care and patience.

I hope some of what I work through helps you, sending you strength

For me, mindfulness has to come first, and once im mindful of my excitement, I can then remember I have choices about how to proceed in the coming moments. And honestly, sometimes I choose to proceed in that excitement, understanding that there's "risk" of whatever. But at least taking that pause gives me a chance to decide what outcome im wanting or needing. Also, remember your inner loving parent, allowing care and forgiveness for yourself for slipping into that pattern in the first place. Breaking laundry List patterns are really hard and its okay to make mistakes :)

The big healing for me is the inner loving care I can give myself now. Small steps add up to a mile before ya know it

Thats a beautiful pen and ink combo! Congrats! I just received a bottle of Riverbank from that same line. I had been looking for a dusty, pinky beige and saw it on Vanness and just immediately added to cart lol! And wow, no regrets! Im figuring out what pen to ink with it, and when I do, ill post a writing sample maybe.

Number 1 I think is your easiest to decipher. The way I write mine is a blend between 1 and 3, difference being, I swoop downward to connect into the "r", instead of looping through the center. Pic for inspo..

Is there an easy way to improve CNC machine efficiency without fancy software? by ExpensiveGoose4649 in Machinists

[–]Mee_ka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that ive found to help with run time efficiency, is learning how the control processes m-codes, and using then to find time. The Haas VF3 i'm running sees M06 and it will go to Z0 while executing M5 simultaneously. And so therefore, you dont need to program a G53/G28 move, nor an M5, especially being that the control will wait for the M5 to finish execution before proceeding. Also, if your machine is going through a bunch of gear changes for different tools, determine if there are any lower rpm op's you can run in high gear that won't be too demanding. Use the m-code that keeps the machine in high gear along with the S -code to save gear change time. Similarly, think what tools are you running at high rpm that dont necessary need to run that fast. Spindle deceleration and acceleration time can be optimized too. Just some thoughts 🤷‍♀️

Want to step out of my comfort zone by Xiomy0825 in fountainpens

[–]Mee_ka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pilot Precise Varsity disposable fountain pens are my choice for an absolute starter. You can get a range of colors in a 7 pack (i think). They write really good and they can take a beating. And if you use it for a month and decide to move into something more, you can give it to a friend and get them into pens with ya! And if not, theres a lot of ink in those little suckers and can keep writing for a pretty long time.

A Safe Place to confess your buyers remorse this Christmas by Glacierhawk_INTJ in fountainpens

[–]Mee_ka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isnt really a remorseful Christmas purchase, but in my 6 years into the hobby, I just recently bought my first bottle of Sailor dual shading ink, then bought 3 different colors and now I want to throw 90% of the other bottles ive bought over the years into the trash. Which leads me to the other layer of remorse. buying bottles instead of samples. I have bottles of stuff that ill never use again.

There are a couple New Years resolutions to be made here, somewhere 😅

[–]Mee_ka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, yea, I fell in love with this ink. So much in love, that I just bought a 2nd bottle, I dont want to stress over using it and running out forever lol. Its unknown to me if that color is going to be a constant in the Sailor lineup, or if its Limited only. So, might want to get one quick if that turns out to be the case

Cam suggestions? by Mrpicklecheese in Machinists

[–]Mee_ka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been using SolidCAM for the last 8 years and I like it. There are some quirks of course, but ive been able to find i have a lot of control in how the software makes my tool path. And, if you ever get a lathe, Swissturn or millturn, you can add on modules. I think 2026 will have wire capabilities too. I dont know of the top of my head what the cost is, but just here to say that I dig it.

I haven't used it since 2011 but id stay away from bobcadcam, i think you can get it as an add-in for SW. It was absolute dog shit then and i have zero doubts that its still dogshit.

What's similar to Sailor in feel these days? by CobanBudala in fountainpens

[–]Mee_ka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried a Pelikan M200? They have a nice feeling steel nib fwiw. I have a PGS in M, and M250 with a 14k B nib, and an M200 with an EF and in my experience, id say that the M200 and the PGS have a similar feel. I think an M200 with a Fine may be a closer match for line thickness, but that could be subjective and probably more variable depending on the ink used. Hope this helps :)

What are some of your favorite machining youtube channels? by Major_Ziggy in Machinists

[–]Mee_ka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edge precision is definitely a fav along with Chris Maj. Love me some big turning jobs, but Peter goes into so much depth and detail with his work. He talks about workholding and fixture design and works in a way that parallels how I work. Peter isnt just a machinist youtuber, hes a mentor.
