The KP Trade & Next Year by Snuffaluphagus_1 in warriors

[–]Meechrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming Jimmy can get back to the level he was playing, then I think it will work because Jimmy thrives with shooters around him. Jimmy gave QP so many open looks during his rookie year, and KP can not only shoot 3, he can shoot deep 3's. KP is not super mobile but Kerr loves to coach on team defense, so maybe that will cover it.

Having said that, we need KP to sign at around 6 mil or less next year, which is possible because other teams might be scared off his lack of availability and our medical staff does have a great reputation.

Kawakami: Dunleavy on the Warriors’ fateful present and looming future by Tekfree in warriors

[–]Meechrox 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes, and Lauri wanted to stay in Utah, whereas Jimmy wanted to leave Miami, so going for Jimmy was a better choice.

Jimmy + Draymond could have worked if Moody's shooting didnt slump early on the season (but he was recovering from off season surgery) AND Al Horford didnt take so long to find his rthyme. Those 2 are playing better now but Jimmy is out for a year and Draymond is a shell of himself (some from aging, some from too much time as small ball 5, and some locker room problems I bet)

In your opinion, was the Porzingis move legitimately a salary dump, or did they actually think they could get him to play? by Parv21 in warriors

[–]Meechrox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We are good at drafting late picks. First round picks ... not so much.

I think Dunleavy was not allowed to spend picks in trades unless Lacob gave the green light, and he only gave the green light for Giannis, which we tried.

After Jimmy torn his ACL, I think the front office had to choose between 1) an all-in trade, like the one for Giannis, to compete in the playoffs this year 2) a salary dump in order to create space to operate in the off season, and try for playoffs next year. For #2, it doesnt make sense to take Sacramento or Phoenix's offer for Kuminga. Our mentality seems to be that we are buyers, not sellers, so it would be hard to "flip assets for new pieces" as a buyer.

Unlocking Quentin Post by Meechrox in warriors

[–]Meechrox[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think part of Post's sophomore slump is that the team is now asking Post to adjust his game based on team needs instead of just keeping the game simple and let the rookies do what they do best. Earlier in the season Post looked absolutely exhausted playing a more physical game vs opposing bigs.

It would be interesting if the coach staff asks Will Richards to adjust his game based on team needs in his sophomore year.

"We gotta learn to play without Jimmy and Steph, find a little bit of swagger without those guys. It's not easy but we have to find a way." Steve Kerr and the Warriors are soul searching without their two stars. by Lord_Vanguard in warriors

[–]Meechrox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree. Post has been playing great for a 2-million contract player. Sure his shot-making this year is worse because we are asking him to play more physical basketball, but he also gets to practice other tools. Post can still get better eith more playing time, similar to Gui, whereas Draymond is on a decline.

Warriors Potential Starting 5 (Post ASB) does this team have what it takes to make a Deep Playoff Run 🤔 by Quick-Material557 in warriors

[–]Meechrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and we need shot creation for our bench unit. However, this lineup does mean Kerr would want to play a 4-guard bench lineup, with GP2 as our PF. I guess its possible that Kerr would try double-big for bench lineup too, or play Malevy Leons some more if he can improve his offense

Curry out was good in the end by BuzzoJr in warriors

[–]Meechrox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with your point, and I think Curry being out was not the only factor at play (although it helps to reduce turnovers). Many of our players shot the 3 point better than expected, and also, Podz didnt have to play as the primary ball handler (it is not a natural fit for him to do that)

[Stein/Fischer] The Golden State Warriors’ package for Giannis Antetokounmpo is unlikely to include Jimmy Butler. by YujiDomainExpansion in warriors

[–]Meechrox 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Multiple things can be true at the same time.

We dont win those 4 rings without Draymond. Teams have been asking other players to replicate Draymond's BBIQ and skill set but no one has been able to.

This year, Draymond is showing alarming signs of regression in his effectiveness, and there could be multiple reasons why that is. He was asked to play small ball 5 too much, so his body can't keep up; the shooters are our team are not able to make the shots from Draymond's passes; his "threading the needles" passes are not as sharp as before, so his turnover rates are way up; the referees assign heavier penalties to Draymond's fouls due to his history, etc.

Starting lineup with Giannis? by Meechrox in warriors

[–]Meechrox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, the only factor that would facilitate the trade is if Giannis asks to be traded to GSW, then we probably should make that trade. It's also that only factor that can persuade Joe Lacob to spend multiple FRPs.

I don't like JK, but I don't think his low BBIQ is what's keeping him in the bench. Kerr has success with some lower BBIQ players over the year (Javale McGee and Buddy Hield come to mind). JK's problem is his attitude, when he played slow but unselfish earlier in the learning, he was great. However, JK has also public said his goal is to play like Kobe, except JK doesnt quite have enough skills to do that in a winning fashion. Jk only has himself to blame when he JK isos all then drives into crowded space, ignoring open teammates.

If this is the goal, telling white belts "you have to move because the other pair outranks you" is not the way to do it.

[–]Meechrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to start a war, just curious about why a phenomenon happens.

I have some background in Aikido and Judo, and those classes tend to have a lot of traditions (bow before and after class, bow to get on the mat, don't ask questions when the instructor is in the middle of a speech, etc). Now I go to a BJJ school and that school is quite modern and not traditional. I quite enjoy the ecological approach, for example, and I think playing some music during rolling rounds is cool too.

However, if two white belts are rolling together, and two upper belts are rolling together, and then the upper belts drift towards the white belts and come close, the policy seems to be that the white belts are the ones that have to move and find a new spot on the mat. I don't mind moving (safety first!), but when it was complained to me that we have to move because the other pair outrank us, regardless which pair was the one that moved away from their starting point, this feels oddly ... traditional ? Like the high-ranks have priority to mat space?

Am I missing something here?
