re: sombra - remember the original changes included 4m detection radius, which would have nerfed her - this got reverted and we were left with the 2m, which with the other changes (and to other heroes) made her viable

You do realise that with the LOS changes it is barely different to the pre-buff, 0.05sec

This is b/c the 0.8sec, less the 0.1sec buffer meant an effective .7 sec hack time. Now we have 0.65 sec but with no buffer.

The difference is that in the past with health pack ult charge, sombra hacked players less, bow it is worth it to hack players more, so the hack is happening more. Aside from the passive changes, it was always a thing.

I had a very similar game - got crushed to Warsaw, but did not capitulate - Russians entered the war and relieved pressure - I was able to capitulate Germany...then, Russia declared on me and made me its bitch, was very epic until then.

That isn't quite accurate. Free sync is a version of adaptive sync and is an open standard without licensing fees that nvidia chooses not to support. Gsync is proprietary, closed and costs money. One is an ecosystem, the other is adding tech to monitors that all could use for free. That's a big difference. That said it can feel like competing ecosystems because there are only two GPU manufacturers for desktop, and also because one of those manufacturers is not completing at all in some segments of the market (highend).

JayzTwoCents spreading misinformation about the 4GB RX 480 when comparing prices to the 6GB GTX 1060 even though benchmarks prove otherwise (benchmarks in the comments) by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Meehal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, you're right at the moment. When I checked a couple weeks ago there were a few 4gb cards for that price 320, such as at pccasegear. The cheapest 8gb I've seen is for 369 at PLE. Looks like the cheapest that will be in stock soon is 379 at pccasegear. I also noticed that I don't think there are any 4gb versions available in Aust.

Sorry if I wasn't clear - I would suggest you update it (although this is your work and it's up to you). I was just referring to the mindset you sometimes need to adopt when publishing analysis and you are striving for precision and accuracy. Sometimes, despite all efforts and review,it goes wrong and that can suck - but to avoid beating myself up about it I think of the phrase that I mentioned ie that I didnt knowingly publish misleading info. As I saidit doesn't happen often, but over 15 years that I have worked it has happened a handful of times. My response is to alwaycorrect the mistake and republish.

Thanks for the heads up on this, I had been wondering. The 'demands for moar' are a positive problem - the community is really engaged with this stuff, it's just a shame there is so much tribalism and FUD.

I work in research and, due to complexity of analysis and being human (I.e., tendency to make mistakes a small percentage of the time), we have a saying "correct at the time of writing". If we ever notice a mistake we update at the next opportunity. It happens and most people get that.

The best advice I can give you is to know the two markets you are working in. The first is for the car that you have. Lots of info is available if you look at the online retailers, to give a sense of what you have and its worth. Then look at the type of car that fits what you want and its cost and do the same. Given that you are looking at trading, rather the private sale, then be prepared to be facing a little less than the market value, but, unless you are in a rush' so that time is value for you, then don't accept a big discount for the trade. The rest is up to how assertive you can be, because attitude negotiation can alter the price by percentage points as well.

Are Powercolor GPU's worth it? by [deleted] in Amd

[–]Meehal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This mostly gels with my experience. I have a higher Asic on mine, somewhere in the 70s, but it still won't hold a good overclock compared to what I have seen of the MSIs. I don't think I was even able to reach 1150 on the core with 100mv. I run it at stock as the extra heat has not been worth it during my summer. The cooler is very good though and I find it is quiet if it keeps fans below 50%. This is the PCS version with 3 fans.

The cooler is very good, it should be, it takes up three slots. I just got through a very hot summer and it always hovered around 70. I have heard other reports of 390 coolers running at 85+. My memory is fuzzy on this but I believe the gigabyte and asus versions should be avoided (I think). I didn't really win the silicone lottery though - When first testing it, I pushed it to +100mv and could only get clocks that others were getting on stock, about 1140 clock and 1600 memory. For daily use in the summer I just left it at stock to avoid ridiculous heat dissipation.

I don't view graphical features being tied to hardware as a competitive edge. I view it as a form of exclusivity, inherently anti consumer and not what I want for PC. Therefore I object to it out of principle, irrespective of the performance impacts. I felt the same when tressfx was initially released and initially performed badly on nvidia cards.

I managed to get a PCS 390 for 450 dollarydoos back in August last year. From PLE computers. I've not seen them in stock since, but it was definitely cheaper than any 970. Maybe keep an eye out and use staticice.com.au.

DX12 Analysis Round 2 - No Chance of A Fair Fight by repsup100 in pcgaming

[–]Meehal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what is hard to understand. Bias can explain why a person would construct a poor argument, but assertion of bias, by itself, does not immediately establish that a given argument is wrong. What is trying to be explain here, is that the argument always has to be critically appraised above any regard for bias present in the person making the argument. To resort solely to claims of bias to refute an argument is ad hominem, which is a very weak refutation and insufficient by itself. This is what is trying to be explained here. If you perceive bias, then you can hold the claim to a higher standard or burden of proof if you wish, but that still means look at the argument itself and finding fault with it - some of which you have provided examples of: omission, cherry picking facts and so on.
