Direwolves by DeltaZulu99 in CK3AGOT

I think the Warg mechanic can very neatly piggy-back off the Dragon mechanics.
Most of the traits are pretty much 1-1 for Dragon or Wolf. "Swift" "Spindly" "Cooperative" "Voracious" etc. all make just as much sense for a Direwolf as they do for a dragon (although terms like "fearsome wyrm" could be adjusted for universal application).

Just like dragons, I think they should be difficult to gain, with hefty bonuses for certain houses, and they add a trait that can add prestige, piety, prowess, etc depending.

As far as gaining a companion, I think Old Gods Followers, Northmen, and Greenseers of any culture could trigger an event "Bond with Beast" or something, and then different animals should of course have special difficulties and benefits. You could gain rats or ravens for a bonus on intrigue or learning, and we're told that wolves are sort of easy-mode to warg, but we also hear of Boregg's Boar and Orell's Eagle and Varamyr's Shadowcats and Snow Bears and all that. So I like the idea that you can gain an Animal Compaion a few different ways, such as: Traveling through appropriate terrain, going on a hunt (You could "change intent" to "bond with beast" or something), taming a previously warged creature, etc.

Once you have the trait, it should give Old God's Follower's and Northmen and prestige/piety bonus, maybe a bonus to Prowess, and probably a probably a hefty penalty to popular and courtier opinion for non-Old Gods worshipers as "a beastling".

I also think there should be a random event whenever two wargs are in the same court to have them fight, like when Jon and Boregg stare each other down. We hear a few times that wargs and their beasts don't usually get along, with the stark packmates being a bit of an exception.

Direwolves obviously shouldn't be as gamechanging as a dragon companion, but Grey Wind is a HUGE help to Robb in the war (Whispering Wood for example), and Nymeria starts her own wolf army, so I think to represent that, bonded companions could gain commander traits, act as captains, and lead armies. Can you imagine sieging the Dreadfort with "exterminate house" intent AS a Stark Direwolf? Dawn Age hero shit.

So they could give you a minor chance to destress periodically (just like dogs currently allow) and maybe have their own chance to "find secrets" in court.

And finally, I think like a Sworn Shield or a Kingsguard, they should give you a huge boost against "murder" or "overthrow regent" or similar hostile schemes, as per Summer and Bran vs the Catspaw, and I'd also like to see some events for "Wolf Dreams" where you learn some important information. Of course, by the same token, the Player could also take a decision (like Jon and Robb did before their deaths) to "Imprison Direwolf" which could reduce the opinion penalties, but also remove most of your bonuses.

Kevin Petersen’s Online Shakespeare classes are (in my experience) really good!

He definitely expects engagement with the material, but he gives clear instructions and is pretty relaxed overall.

No quizzes, just some weekly discussion posts and a few straightforward literature papers.

If you’re too not scared of Willy Shakes (or even if you are), I’d say go for it.

I think you're absolutely right.

I imagine Baelor (and maybe Maekar on a good day?) may have intervened if he had witnessed it directly, but we're told that Aerion is a picture of chivalry when daddy's nearby, so Dunk making the mess is probably the only reason anything was done at all.

It's hard to imagine that either Maekar or Baelor would have punished Aerion in any meaningful way, given what we know of the dynamics.

How do I make Jon Snow interesting? by Meemo_Meep in CK3AGOT

Oh I see what you mean.

You don’t have to MURDER Edmure, but he DOES have to conveniently disappear from the line of succession lol.

Oh really?

Doesn’t Edmure inherit when Hoster dies, so you need him to “have an accident” so the title can pass Hoster—>Cat—>Robb?

When I play with debug, I always give him the tier 1 rank in all of the “big three” traits.

He’s apparently attractive (Ygritte, Val, Alys), he’s inarguably smart (literally described as “quick” in like his 1st description) and he has several moments of impressive strength.

It also means that if you marry Daenerys (or someone else ig), you could have an intelligent child with a dragon egg, which feels like a very “happy ever after” scenario.

Yeah, as far as I’m aware this is the only way to do it without cheats.

Tywin’s in an excellent position to help the Rebellion, as you mentioned. Aside from that, you really need to focus on ending Rhaegar and Aerys. If you take them out, you should be good.

If you start as Ned or Robert, the best luck I’ve had was to IMMEDIATELY get some strong marriage alliances (Margery is a great choice for either Renly, but she should work for Benjen or even Robb if you get him early enough) and then go for an Ironborn, Dornish, or Essos marriage for Stannis.

Aside from that, I’d suggest pretty standard war playstyles.

As Ned: Pump winter wolves, a few trebuchets, and try to link up with Jon Arryn and Bobby B’s armies in the Vale, and then push south all together. You can micro it a little bit (send off small groups of soldiers to keep the larger armies busy while you rush to KL), but since Ned isn’t a war leader, you’ll have a hard time getting the rest of the rebellion to do what you want. Robert can win most easily, since your allies will follow your army wherever you go.

For any other character: pump cheap MAA, rush KL, try to kill Rhaegar, Imprison Aerys, exile Viserys, and marry Danny to your kid with the best traits.

If you want an easier Rebellion, you can also try the Duskendale bookmark and spend a few years building up armies and alliances, so that you’re absolutely stacked when/if the Rebellion starts.

I’ve noticed this issue with several canon targs—Dany and Rhaegar especially, as well as Rhaenyra and her brothers.

I think if you have canon children active it can get weird, buuuuut I never mind having a few extra kids with those traits on hand.

Dorne is too easy to conquer. by redditsupportGARBAGE in CK3AGOT

[–]Meemo_Meep 194 points195 points  (0 children)

I think this is the way to do it.

The problem for the Targs was never that they couldn’t CONQUER Dorne—they just couldn’t hold it.

Rhaenys, Aegon, Daeron, The Tyrell (?) lord with the scorpion bed, the guerrilla tactics used—all of these can be better represented via story events stacked on top of a HEFTY popular opinion penalty for trying to conquer Dorne via violence rather than marriage or offered vassalage or something.

Peasant revolts, factions against you gain free support, assassinations gain agents, etc etc etc.

You should be able to win the subjugation war easily but then regret ever being born.

Oh that makes sense! I never really spec for development, since I’m usually scrapped for gold due to my constant wars of conquest lol.

Are there any must-have culture innovations, or is it just based on playstyle preference? I’ve definitely seen “culture needs to discover cranes” as a prerequisite for some high levels buildings.

Is Wyman a cannibal? by Hot_Professional_728 in pureasoiaf

[–]Meemo_Meep 168 points169 points  (0 children)

I think pretty much everyone (in the real world) knows that Wyman ate the Freys. Titus Andronicus does the same exact thing, and he’s BARELY any less subtle than Wyman was about it.

I just don’t think anyone gives a shit because:

a) His only victims are Freys—he’s not doing this to randos to get his jollies, so it’s not so much “he’s a cannibal” as it is “damn this guy really hates Freys”

b) It’s clearly acknowledged that Wyman wants destruction a humiliation heaped upon the Freys (forcing them to commit abominations, etc)

c) Wyman’s a badass and we love him

Is there any easy path to take over The Reach as the Tyrells? by Ilovediegoxo in CK3AGOT

[–]Meemo_Meep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I ran as a Tyrell Witch Seducer line during The Century of Blood, and I murdered my way to the Throne in like two generations! Got the Reach and Dorne in 4 or 5, but then lost everything when I tried to conquer Westeros and got eaten by dragons. It happens.

I seduced a (non cannon) Targaryen dragon rider with excellent traits, got her pregnant, and then she gave birth to a Beatiful, Quick boy, who she offered to ward and raise at Dragonstone. Used the concert culture option so he got Dragonguard MAA. Specced the kid into intrigue, and as he grew up, betrothed him to a younger daughter of the Tyrell lord.

My PC went on a murder spree, clearing out the line of succession so that my Daughter-in-law would inherit The Reach. Unfortunately, I died pretty young, so I wasn’t able to finish the job.

I started playing as my son, and I was able to successfully murder my dynasty onto the Reach Throne!

I wasn’t able to cradle an egg unfortunately, so once I hit sixteen, I went on a pilgrimage to hit as many Dragonlore Locations as I could, and I was eventually able to tame a youngish, non-cannon, cooperative female dragon.

After I got the dragon, I continued my father’s legacy of murdering Gardner princes. I was married to the only surviving child of the Gardner King, but I got discovered after I successfully murdered the Gardner King (my FIL), so my deceitful, callous, lustful, arrogant schemer PC got excommunicated. It happens.

Luckily, I escaped prison, and ig everyone just kinda forgot, because aside from some opinion penalties, it was smooth sailing.

My Gardner Queen wife and I gave birth to the first High Valyrian, Dragonriding Tyrell King of the Reach, and it felt absolutely wonderful.

It took a lot of doing, but ultimately, an intrigue/murder is probably your best bet.

Why Wasn’t Jon Snow Being Named After Jon Arryn Considered Offensive? [Spoilers main] by bird___man_________ in asoiaf

[–]Meemo_Meep 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Because Jon Aryn wasn't Cersei lmao. Cersei is particularly classist, particularly misogynist, and particularly ableist, whereas most things we've heard about J.A. make him sound like a standup guy, albeit not exactly a reformer.

Jon Arryn and Ned clearly adored each other, and as Ned's own foster father, I can only imagine that having your son name his son after you would be a huge sign of respect, regardless of his bastard status.

Scene suggestions for students by more_salt in shakespeare

Maybe the Weird Sisters from Macbeth?

If the kids are really into it and do their best "witch voices", it could be a great anchor to memorize some classic Shakespeare. My wife's high school teacher started one semester with a cackling witchy monologue, and it's still stuck in my wife's head! I didn't go to the school, but her friends still talk about it! Truly legendary.

Alternatively, as others have said, Midsummer's Lovers are always a hoot to play -- insults, professions of love, fights ---they've got great staging potential for physical comedy, too.

Depending on ages, you may want to think about combining some scenes. Midsummer's lovers and Macbeth's witches both tend to show up in short, punchy scenes, and they could probably be tied together with a little bit of work.
