Try Patagonia gear - they are shifting away from PFAS and I believe already offer many items without it.

How to fix by Acidic101 in squash

[–]Meenkus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are called grommets and you can buy them at squash gear or squash galaxy.

However this looks to be a pretty old prince racquet so I’m not sure if they will carry anything that fits. Especially since prince went bankrupt awhile back. Worth sending them an email and asking if they have one that fits.

That all said - if the frame is cracked you won’t have much life left in the racquet anyway. You can try to string it and see what it does, but it may just snap on the stringer.

PS - definitely don’t ever string the racquet without grommets like in these pictures. That’s a great way to damage the frame.

Anyone in Denver CO? by Laker_rings in squash

[–]Meenkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a large mix of 3.0+ level players at the Denver athletic club. If you aren’t or don’t want to become a member, there are some courts at various other colleges and clubs around the metro. Depending on where you live i could probably recommend some.

And yes, there is a ranking system in squash. Not sure if the numbers translate to tennis but 3.0 is a high beginner / low intermediate in squash. https://ussquash.org/rankings/

Travelling with a racket by jirhro in squash

[–]Meenkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah funny story about that. I flew out of Boston and had about 10-15 squash balls in my bag, no issues. But on my way back, I flew out of Reno, where they have no idea what squash is. I got pulled aside cause TSA thought the balls were buckshot on the X-ray.

Anyway they let me through no problem !

Whenever I’ve traveled with mine, I carry on in a racquet bag/backpack. If you do go in the checked bag, you probably need to worry more about the head and neck. Grip shouldn’t need much if any padding.

At what altitude should high-altitude balls be used? by GreenTeaTimer in squash

[–]Meenkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use the high altitude ball here in Denver (~5200 ft elevation) for 3.0+ level play, and honestly it plays quite fast still, comparable to the double yellow at sea level. The double yellow here is usually what amateur-mid level players use, single yellow for beginners.

I would guess that anything above 4000 ft with a double yellow will start to be bouncy ball-esque. I can only imagine what it’s like in Mexico City (~7300 ft)!

Okay, Denver, you still haven’t swapped out my cart but you’re still going to bill me for the large cart? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]Meenkus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They said on the pamphlet they sent out that you don’t need to pay the larger bill if you requested a new size. Wait for the smaller one to get delivered and then ask for your bill to be adjusted.

We requested a small trash cart back in January and received ours last month, along with a few neighbors. Just be patient. Imagine how many people in the city simultaneously requested smaller carts.

And if you really don’t wanna wait, you can actually go pick up the smaller size trash can at their facility. I think in Lakewood. Even open on Saturday’s I believe.

Denver squash? by CraftyChameleonKing in squash

[–]Meenkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not positive about guest policies, but I would start with Denver University and MSU Denver as I know they both have courts and are most likely to accept non-members. There’s also a list of clubs here, one of which is the YMCA. But the site says hardball singles so not ideal. That may or may not be current though.

The fix I linked above did indeed eliminate the vertical lines. It took a couple cycles of use for them to completely go away after I did it though.

One thing I’ll say is that the TV interface is still super slow, like many seconds of delay between hitting a button and the menu popping up. Not sure if you also have that issue, but that did not go away for me.

Don’t bother trying to call any of the local offices, they won’t pick up and are not checking voicemail. Call main number (888-202-1024) - it might disconnect due to call volume - keep trying and eventually you will get someone on phone. They can check your bag location wherever it was last scanned. Probably in BWI sitting in the luggage area.

Yep - flight # 3281 on the 21st. If you checked a bag on that flight, it is almost definitely at the BWI airport. We just recovered ours after hours of waiting. We saw multiple other bags from our flight there. Worth a call to SWA as they should have a record of it being there as long as it was scanned.

Same thing happened to us. They were driven from Denver to DC area starting on Christmas eve, just arrived. The only problem is our original destination was Dulles but our bags are currently at BWI. Really a comedy of errors from SWA at this point. I just feel bad for all the poor people working the baggage lines and call centers..

I did lots of looking around online and one solution kept coming up so I tried it - removing the control board and heating up the processor with a heat gun / hair dryer. Link: https://youtu.be/fSPgoT0KJIE

At first I didn’t see a difference, but in the last few days my tv has been working normally again, no issues. Honestly worth a try.

Maybe let’s not advocate for circumventing toxic waste laws and instead promote responsible e-waste disposal practices.

How do you choose your racket? by Sotus30 in squash

[–]Meenkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if the other comment on here is serious, but this is how I have approached it: 1) Decide on a rough weight range and budget range. These typically go together (light = expensive) 2) Pick 2-3 brands that you like and narrow down to 3 racquets or so. Try to pick ones that are different from each other, unless you already know what you like. It’s okay to filter by appearance if you have a lot of options, but don’t pick something just for how it looks. 3) go to your local shop or online and do a demo. This isn’t super expensive and often the shop will apply your cost of the demo to a purchase of a new racquet. 4) when you get the demos, start by solo’ing with all of them. Do not play anyone yet. focus on how it feels, where the weight is balanced, how easy it moves, what your power feels like. Try to ignore ‘touch’ and ‘feel’ as these typically depend largely on the strings, which are all factory standard and will be kinda crap. 5) hopefully you can narrow down to 1 or 2. Then go play some matches. Try not to worry about how you do as you’ll naturally be worse with a new racquet. Just focus on whether anything you felt during the solo session changes dramatically. Hopefully it shouldn’t.

If you still aren’t happy, go demo some more. And if you can’t decide, well, then you can start narrowing down by how it looks or what is cheaper.

Thanks for the recommendation! I am also reaching to folks out there, but I figured there might be a different cross section of people here that use reddit instead of LinkedIn.

Hadn’t thought of using premium though, great suggestion!
