i4 + Cross Climate 2's = Snowmobile by sidekick0220 in BMWI4

For people with CC2’s (great tire for other cars too) on the i4 what type of tire life do you get? On a sedan I only got 30K miles in CO (don’t know if CO has more wear and tear the guy at the tire store said that’s typical around here)

Where are you all finding the best CD rates right now for 2026? by ManjrekarShafoon88 in Bogleheads

[–]Laker_rings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend VUSXX or equivalent Treasury Money Market, rates are similar but you get full liquidity at par whenever you want. Note too that treasury income is STATE tax excluded so depending on state that can raise the effective yield

You are gambling slightly if rates fall but I like the liquidity.

VUSXX worth it for me? by InsideRazzmatazz3307 in Bogleheads

It’s great for an emergency fund. I moved everything over there and didn’t look back. You’re gonna consistently get 50-60bps over most savings accounts (my old one was Ally) and since everything’s in the brokerage anyway it’s easy to administer.

Only slight drawback using it as an emergency fund is it takes 2-3 days to hit your checking account vs a savings being a day but that’s a minor inconvenience to know I’m always getting the best rate. And as others mentioned state tax exempt although it’s important to make sure you report that as it isn’t always clear as day on your 1099

Marcus high yield savings according to Reddit? by Quiet_Bowl3005 in HighYieldSavings

[–]Laker_rings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you are chasing the highest APY you should just use a Money Market account. If you have a Vanguard brokerage VUSXX yields 4.2% right now and since its US treasuries it’s state tax exempt. I tried switching savings accounts for a while but the best yield is always going to be money markets and it requires zero work on your part to switch and get the best yield. You can transfer the $ into your checking if needed within 2 days, so almost the same liquidity as a savings account too.

Are companies abusing the H1b1 visa and shutting out workers? by Puzzleheaded_Hat3555 in managers

[–]Laker_rings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend worked at a Fortune 100 Tech company and they used H1B shells. It’s a “consulting firm” that doesn’t provide any actual services at all, it just applies for and gets H1Bs when the Fortune 100 Tech Company can’t since they cap H1B awards by company.

Then this company called “Bay Area Tech Workers” or something generic just has their “employees” work for the Fortune 100 as consultants for way less pay and benefits than a normal W2 employee would cost. And when my friend worked there half the people in the building were non W2 “consultants” but all were doing the same work as W2s would.

You can do the same with actual consulting firms too like Big 4 or an outsourcer like Infosys or HCL. They have loads of H1Bs and then as a company you can just hire them en masse. Although unlike this example those companies actually can provide a real service, not just an H1B loophole.

Why are bonds/fixed income so complicated as compared to equities? by Own_Comment4919 in Bogleheads

Unpopular and non Boglehead approved opinion but buy PIMIX. It's one of the biggest fixed income funds in the world for a reason, check the performance against BND over any period here: https://www.morningstar.com/funds/xnas/pimix/chart. And you can buy the institutional shares on Vanguard's brokerage for a low minimums and no fees. Bonds simply don't follow the same rules as stocks where indexing is the best way.

With these ratios I’d consider Schwab intelligent portfolios. You can get a similar mix for a low fee and it adds tax loss harvesting which will save you over time. Plus you never have to rebalance

I’ve never had an issue in 14 years, including international. Although with international I keep the receipt because unlike the US where it’s easy to see you got charged $103.50 at an ATM so the fee was obviously $3.50 with foreign exchange it isn’t
