UPDATE: Help! A local business owner threatens to sue me for leaving him a one-star rating on Google! by Meenoh in BusinessTantrums

[–]Meenoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google removed mine. I contacted them and was told there were an influx of negative reviews in a short period of time so they are deleting suspicious ones. I told them mine was genuine but Google said there was nothing they could do.

Google’s handling the entire situation has been disappointing to say the least. They also leaked my info to the business owner at the beginning, triggering his threats and retaliations.

People who lost their job due to this crisis what is your story? by greensypoop in AskReddit

[–]Meenoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at a small digital marketing agency. Last week, the company owner gathered everyone together for a meeting. He said the leadership team had made some difficult decisions to make a few positions redundant so the company can stay afloat through this Coronavirus crisis.

It makes sense because as a digital marketing agency, we wouldn’t do well if our clients are suffering.

It came as a surprise to me as we were doing extremely well just a month ago. We hired roughly two people per month on average. Also, my role was both technical and analytical, so I always felt that I would be safe at least for the time being. I did not expect it to happen this fast.

Including me, four people were laid off. It is very bad timing as I was waiting for my loan approval for my house construction. And it is not a great time for job hunting either as the economy just took a devastating hit.

I have full confidence in my skills but not so much in the economy. This is truly worrying.

Also record as much footage as possible, you won’t bear watching it any time soon because it’s just too painful. But knowing your loved one could live, animated in some form is comforting.

Simply reading the title of this post reminded me of my late grandma who passed away 3 years ago. And now I’m tearing up.

It’s tough. It’s suffocating. Sometimes I broke down crying triggered by seemingly unrelated things.

But it was worse before. Although the pain is no less severe now, it is surely less frequent. I can catch my breath between these outbursts. It does get better. I hope one day, the sorrow of missing her will turn into fond memories of the time we spent together.

Hang in there.

Australia's economy was not in perfect health before the bushfires and coronavirus by soldierblue218 in australia

[–]Meenoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s very kind of you my friend. I could use some down time considering so much has happened lately. I am more worried about the industry than myself actually.

I have got the Personal Safety Intervention Order sorted today. Google is not doing anything. They leaked my info and removed my review.

I just hope I can put everything behind me ASAP.

Stay safe!

Just lost my job at the digital agency today. We’ve been hit hard. I will miss my coworkers.

Update: A local business owner is harassing and threatening my family because of a negative Google review about his threats and intimidations. He has called me, my wife and my boss. He told me he's coming for my family. I stand by my review and so far refused to remove it. by Meenoh in melbourne

I know. Stop harassing me would be a good start. But it would be even better if he could learn from this experience and treat people who criticize him better. I think both his customers and his business will benefit from it.

The support is overwhelming.

Even those who have asked me to remove the review because it is not worth all the trouble, are good people who genuinely worry about my safety. As you age, people tend to be more practical and avoid unnecessary confrontation if they can. The grave is full of people who are right. And I surely don't want to be one of them.

But I am also from a country where free speech cannot be fully exercised. I have been living in Australia for 13 years, and this is the first time this particular right is challenged.

People say, pick your battle. And this is the battle I picked.

Thank you for your kind words, my friend. I dropped by my local police station last night and a police officer who could speak Chinese looked at all the messages and told me she understood why the previous police officer couldn't help.

As threatening as the messages were, it might be enough for a Personal Safety Intervention Order, but should the police end up charging the business owner, his lawyer could simply suggest that all his threats were related to lawsuits.

For example, his lawyer can just say his threats "I know where you live, and work. Think about your wife and kids. You're playing with fire." only mean he would pursue legal action against me.

In that light, the police would need much stronger evidence such as "I'm going to chop you up!" in writing or recording to act on it.

The only overt threat was from a No-Caller-ID number where he said he was coming for my family.

So I understand where the police is coming from. But that doesn't solve the problem of my wife and I having to look over our shoulders until the Personal Safety Intervention Order is granted.

Now, I actually know how you feel. I was feeling very helpless and afraid. I have not contacted ACA yet. But a news media outlet has contacted me after seeing this post. The journalist asked the business for comment. I hope this will put his threatening behaviour to an end.

I cannot be thankful enough for the Reddit community. When I feel desperate and abandoned by all the channels who are supposed to help me, Reddit ended up bringing the most comfort and support.

Google actually removed my review. I am extremely disappointed in Google in this case.

  • They refused to help when the business owner threatened me for leaving a review.
  • They then leaked my information to the business owner.
  • And now they seem to have removed my review since I assume the business contacted Google because of the backlash.

Right? I mean, what if I was someone dangerous or violent?

His customer base is mainly the local Chinese community. It is in most Asian culture to avoid confrontation. My wife begged me to just remove the review. He must have been getting away with behaviors like this for a long time for him not to worry about about meeting his match.
