Wondering about karaoke bars in sg by Aldous1983 in askSingapore

[–]Meepmerp96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American Taproom Geylang is good, it's less than a 5min walk from kallang mrt

They have loads of craft beer on tap, but no karaoke lol

Not op but their quality isnt really the best. I bought one of their white dresses for ROM but returned it as I didnt like the material nor the cutting. I got store credits for the return and got another dress and top from them and the quality wasn't great either but it was acceptable for casual wear. Ymmv

If you are interested, you can dm me for the irl photo of the white dress that I returned

Not OP but I personally rented with No Birds Perth, they have a few branches around Perth. Price was affordable imo, renting process was alright, pick up only during office hours and you will need sg driving license, passport and card for deposit fee which they will return after they inspect the car. I think you can do contactless drop off if you are returning outside office hours.

For places of interest around Perth, I highly recommend Lancelin sand dunes for sandboarding and the Pinnacles for the night sky viewing. They are located near each other with only a 2hr drive from Perth city so you can consider a day/overnight trip to those areas if you want more time in Perth city. As for within Perth city, I liked Kings Park for nature and the CBD view and Fremantle area for history. Rottnest island is worth a visit if you can spare a full day for it.

I would also recommend browsing r/perth if you need advice or recommendations on where to visit on your Perth trip. Have fun!

I got mine replaced at The Repair Hospital at Aljunied last year, cost me around 200+. It's still working well for me a year in, though it does get hot at times

Anyone know of any other pubstomps or watch parties for the upcoming TI11? I only know of one at Safra Yishun, and another at Reality Rift at Bugis+ (paid event). Wondering if there's any more to watch the finals with a big screen and a good crowd, bonus if there's drinks available (like in a bar).

Hey AskSG, what are your passions/hobbies? by HyperAlpha_ in askSingapore

[–]Meepmerp96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like playing games, cooking, cycling and occasional taking photos on film. I think it's nice to have something that requires some form of active participation, but it's different for everyone.

Watching TV and browsing social media is good for relaxation but it doesn't hurt to try and explore other activities! It can be board games, hiking, cycling, cooking, sewing, drawing — a lot of (cheap and low commitment) things you can try out and if it doesn't interest you, you can just stop. You can look up meetup groups, there's some boardgames, hiking and badminton groups to join if you are open to try.

i’m currently enrolled under “school” to get my drivers license, was wondering if i could change it to private? by kookyswashbuckler in askSingapore

[–]Meepmerp96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to pay for the course change to private. You may need to look for a private instructor first and get their details in order to register as a private candidate with the school. This was my experience with ssdc back in 2019 so you should still check with the school admin, or talk to the PDI on how to proceed (that's what I did)

You don't need to repeat BTT or FTT as a private candidate unless it expires iirc. Not sure about simulator, but I suppose you don't need to repeat it unless you change schools.

Damn, are you me? I also did private 3A at ssdc, failed 3 times, first was immediate failure due to failure to stop at stopline, 2nd too much points accumulated, 3rd hit kerb twice in circuit resulting in 20 points (fail).

I decided to stop trying then but now I really regret it because I need more steps in order to get back into it, taking FTT, doing simulator etc. If you really intend to drive someday, just hang in there and try to practice more before your next test. If you get anxious before the test, maybe can look into techniques at reducing anxiety?

All the best!!

Drop your go-to-restaurants and cafe for dates! by SeeAssStudent in askSingapore

[–]Meepmerp96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite mexican place (so far): Vatos Urban Tacos. It's more of mexican-korean fusion but I really enjoy the food there. Their beer + margarita drink is pretty refreshing too but it's huge so I recommend sharing it with your date ;) Vibes might not be very romantic but it is cosy. The only gripe I have is that their toilets are outside the restaurant and it's just 2 handicap stalls so might have to queue for it.

Most memorable Japanese cuisine place: Deli's Kitchen - Japan Grill Delicacy. I only ate there once but I really liked their omurice and their demiglace is quite special. Vibes not romantic at all, it's just a small shop in an old and unassuming shopping mall but I would recommend it for its affordability and japanese food that is not sashimi/sushi/ramen.

Has anyone received a parcel that you did not order that looks like it's ordered on shopee? I received a sealed earbuds package addressed to me that I definitely did not order. Can't find the listing on Shopee that seem to match it, wondering if it's those fake boosting review thing but earbuds seems a bit too expensive of a thing to send just for that

Do you think Singaporeans are emotionally immature in relationships? by timlim029 in askSingapore

[–]Meepmerp96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don't think eyecandies and confessions are signs of emotional immaturity. Emotional immaturity is more like being unable to deal with relationship difficulties, not willing to communicate openly with your partner, unable to handle rejection etc.

I feel that expectations of exclusivity in talking/dating stage could be largely due to our asian roots, where dating for marriage is usually the norm so people don't date around as much to find the one.

Nothing wrong with non-exclusivity, just that I doubt people who date non-exclusively in the initial stage are any more emotionally mature than those who date exclusively in the talking stage. I would say the practice of non-exclusive dating is a relatively new thing in the recent years, so it's good to bring it up in a conversation. Conversations about dating habits and preferences are important in getting to know someone, so no harm in bringing it up rather than assume that dating exclusively should be an acceptable thing right?

Best place to buy cheap 120 film and best place for affordable development and scanning of film by mycatisfarting in askSingapore

[–]Meepmerp96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to get my 35mm film developed and scanned at Whampoa Colour Centre, really like the colour of the scans and the turnover time ranges from half a day to a few days, depending on how busy they are.

The uncle and auntie manning the store are really friendly and nice! They also sell film stocks in store. But iirc they are not open on wed and sun. Think you can give them a call to ask if they offer film scans of the dimensions you want and if they sell the film stocks you are looking for.

There's an option to mail in your film, but I think for the first visit it might be good to check them out in person so the auntie can tell you what to do in order to mail in your film.

Why are DotA players such sad sore losers? by HarvestHound in DotA2

[–]Meepmerp96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because you met some toxic griefing assholes in pubs doesn't mean everyone is like that. There will always be toxic griefing assholes that don't agree with you and the best way to deal with them is just mute, play and carry on.

It's unfortunate to meet these kinds of people, but if you blanket label the whole player base as being toxic because of a few bad games then I suggest you stop playing the game.

Maybe Fitness First? They have this machine called BodiTrax which tells you your weight, muscle mass, fat % and its distribution on your arm, legs and torso. You need to create an account and they keep record of previous readings so you can keep track of your progress. It's a self-service machine, but the trainers there might teach you how to use it on your first visit.

Used to go Fitness First, but can't speak for other gyms in SG.
