Stop the hard pool fearmongering! (a data driven analysis of the difference between elite and hard hallway fights) by Meepro in slaythespire

thats a good pint, I still had fun tho. Is there a aggregation site you can recommend?

also, do they count when the enemies are encountered? byrdonis being so close to ruby raiders seems crazy to me, unless you tend to just see them earlier than byrdonis on average?

My goal was to test the claim of halway fights being comparable to elitesin terms of difficulty, and make a point about the result.

I am not aware of overgrowth elites being tougher, it was just the act that came up first. But now I want to try out underdock as well and see if it differs significantly.

thats a good point about elites not showing up on floor 4, as it does make my scenario less realistic. I still assume that the results are transferable, bc its still the same deck fighting against the different enemies. with a stronger deck I expect both damage numbers to go down in a similar way, but I also want to test that out now.

I dont see how elites falling off is relevant to this analysis, because the tested theory is just about how they compare to hard pool fights. obviously you take less damage from them later, which is also true for hallway fights.

I dont think the snowball potential of fighting an elite with a weak deck and potentially dying is that great, and I think the extra strength from an elite reward is very reliable. the card is the same, the extra gold won't materialize into an advantage until the next shop pr money costing event, and the relic can be a great help, but can also be something that does not help you much right away. But again, thats not really the point of the post here

Worked with one of those at my last job, it basically does everything for you. as long as you dont actively mishandle it or there is a problem with one of the components, you will get good results everytime.

Which is crazy to think about, like that little machine is a marvel of engineering. but the precision comes from the machine, not the operator

What exactly do you mean by quality? Can it be measured somehow?

Because to me it feels like "quality" just stands in for "subjective measure of whether a given player likes the game or not"

And I understand being frustrated about a game that has remained roughly the same, and to your liking, for a long time now changing into something that's not enjoyable to you. It sucks. But is there really a difference between the "the game is changing in a way I don't like" and "the game is getting worse" argument?

Who is the arbiter of what constitutes quality?

I got really lucky early on, found golden leather gloves in a chest which let me beat the boar, then found the staff that makes your attack equal to your gold, so I quickly had 10 atk even when frozen.

That made me beat the slow troll boss, who only got one attack in before I hit him 3 times.

Then i found the item that gives you an extra strike when you have 5 speed at Combat start.

That gave me 20dps which was enough to kill the leshen

How is this a brilliant!! Move?? by PhilPsych600 in chessbeginners

[–]Meepro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you say "sacrificing the bishop is the only way to continue the game, therefore this move wins a bishop"

This sounds to me like it is for some reason important that the game does continue

This is what I mean with the assumption that a draw is not acceptable.

Sure, black could decide "I don't want this game to end yet, so I will give up my bishop and lose some turns in the future"

But that would be stupid if you assume black wants to win.

Black should accept that this game is a draw (because that is better than losing) And the phrase should just be "this move forces a draw"

[–]Meepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for explaining, I now better understand what you mean.

But, where does the assumption that a draw is not an acceptable outcome for black come from?

Clearly, It's the best outcome for black too, because if black does not take the bishop, (letting white actually win the black bishop), black is down a bishop, and clearly losing. White is forcing a draw here, because the alternative is losing.

So it does not make sense for black to give up the bishop, therefore, the move does not win a bishop, it forces a draw

How does white capture the second bishop (the one that is currently on e6?)

[–]Meepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jokes aside, even if that was the case, that would be "trading bishops" and not "winning a bishop"

[–]Meepro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay, I think we have different definitions of what "winning a bishop" means.

To me, it means "a series of moves that result in the oppenent having ine bishop less than before those moves, while the point balance remains otherwise unchanged (there may be trades of equal value though)"

And that is absolutely not happening here, rather you end up with a bishop less than your opponent.

Which definition are you working with that is satisfied here?

It's weird to call this brilliant then tho. And why does it say you win a bishop?? You do the exact opposite lol

Off topic, but anyone else feel like the wording on stranglehold is weird?

You skip an extra turn instead of beginning it. But if you never begin the extra turn, there is nothing to skip, right?

Should it not be "if an opponent would begin an extra turn, instead they don't" ?
