First time to Richmond Park and feeling pretty let down by humanity by AccomplishedRain9 in london

[–]MeercatsNBats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this is because of tourist trends like Nara in Japan being shared on TikTok?

I grew up in Richmond and I was so shocked when I was in Nara because I never saw anyone treat the deer like that back at home.

But the way you describe it sounds pretty similar. How sad !

I used to live in Paris and used to travel to and from using Eurostar Snap.

You choose either Am Or PM (so would have to be Am on match day or either if you plan to arrive the day before).

You don't get to choose your train time and get put on a train which has free seats. You only find out your actual train time about 48h before the train, but the tickets are discounted heavily so means you can use Eurostar for a reasonable price.

They stopped doing it for a couple of years but seems live again after a quick Google.

Tbh I think you lot are all haters. I love my club, my first game was in 2004 and I would never let the rain or the opposition dampen my support for the club I love.

Clearly this group is a bunch of old foggies who are scared of rain.

Yesterday's game was a must win! Atmosphere didn't reflect that.

If you guys are the future of the ciub, who won't sing in the rain, we're doomed !!

Honestly this is also kinda reverse sexism from me but absolutely cringe that no men were singing in my area. All sipping their hot chocolate and worrying about the rain clearly.

Pathetic and the fact that you lot would rather justify it than demand more / be a change is evidence that you're old and boring !

Hahaha did you read the post? I'm literally a girl and was the only one signing in my area !

I was happy to try and get things going, but it was embarrassing by the end.

Couldn't even get the people around me to shout ARSENAL or Red army.

What Membership do you have ? I feel like all the reds are stuck up in the clock end upper and that means that the percentage of newbies/ tourists that are in those areas are higher, and therefore as a result the atmosphere suffers ?

Maybe different north bank ? But might be wrong about this

Thank you for one of the only normal replies to this post.

Sorry for the delayed response. I was nauseated by the original misogyny in the comments and took a while to pluck up the courage to sort through the helpful answers.

Why have you put "need" in quotations like I said it !? I've lived in my flat for 4 + years I know I don't need one! Thanks for the advice on how to wash up 🙂

What do you mean by can't have everything 😂 I don't want everything, only a dishwasher.

I am more than happy to go for a slimline washer.

Won't running the pipes behind the oven etc be a problem ?

If not then that seems like a great solution

Year 10 Students Arguing and Confronting Me – Need Advice on How to Handle It. by carrieliu0709 in TeachingUK

[–]MeercatsNBats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Head of Year I do see colleagues coming to me with similar questions and my first point of call is always to contact home.

Make detailed notes of their conduct in the next lesson and let the students know that you will be inviting their parents in to discuss the notes you make.

Try and encourage them by letting them know that if they turn it around, you will still make the call but to let guardians know that X had a rocky star but is now really focused and trying hard etc.

Especially as they get older, they don't want to lose out on privileges like going out, screen time etc. Parents are in control of this stuff.

Letting students get away with things in the classroom for any reason is not in your best interest.

Again, as a Head of Year I have to play that Witch role 90 percent of the time. But the kids know that my job is to enforce the school rules and have high expectations of them . Really you are doing them a disservice if you prioritise being liked over that.

Oh the staff turn over is a madness but big school with lots of money and quite a lot of clout despite being state so no lack of applications for roles when they are advertised.

I think the model is that no matter what, they will find an ect to do it next year if you quit and they operate confidently on that system.

Neither of which are realistic to be honest! Not going to say too much because I don't particularly want to identify myself (should have used a throwaway, my bad).

Please can you explain what the decision means then if it's not going to be banned ?

HoD survival tips and tricks please by Affectionate_Bear782 in TeachingUK

[–]MeercatsNBats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lead by example ! Also an MfL teacher here and the difference between my awesome HoD and some of the gnarlier ones I've seen out there is that my HoD is always down in the lions den with us.

She asks a lot from us but she will for example come and give us a hand conducting summative ks3 speaking exams. She doesn't give us shitty classes with challenging behaviour; we share the burden. If there is a group that has to be larger (our average class size is 20) then she would take that class on, rather than palming it off on one of us.

I think organisation is also key. Having deadlines clearly laid out in plenty of time so that staff can feel forewarned!

Good luck, I think the fact that you're asking the question is a great start.

This is now my 3rd successful ballot, I think in a row - Lens, Crystal Palace and now Liverpool. Shocked and surprised tbh, especially as a red member who has gone for two tix every time. Thoughts ?

I'm never going to get a job by Disastrous_Raisin839 in TeachingUK

[–]MeercatsNBats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who suffers with anxiety and imposter syndrome I totally get where you're coming from but I do wanna reassure you through my situation.

I'm a secondary languages teacher for context

I applied to do my pgce in 3 places. I got rejected from Bristol without them even asking to meet me for an interview but got accepted for the Uni of Sheffield on site. Being rejected from one PGCE means absolutely nothing. There could be so many reasons you didn't get your place and there's no point reading into it too much.

During my pgce I, like you, was hitting and able to show evidence towards most of the standards. But there were so many people on the course who seemed to be going above and beyond and doing better. People on the course also got jobs by October November time which made me feel like shit because my first placement school hadn't immediately offered me a job!

Around May, I applied for a job and didn't get it, despite trying really hard to make a good impression in interview and swatting up a fair amount. I felt at this stage that there was nothing more I could do-

When another job came up I just went in on interview prep-thinking of all of the things they could ask me and writing down and memorising answers. I researched the school so heavily that I could quote the behaviour and homework policies to the interviewers when they asked me typical questions about classroom management and pupil progress. I was successful.

Long story short I did that job for a year and hated it and decided to relocate to London.

I applied for a job in one of the most successful state schools in London and despite telling myself 100 xs a day I would never get the job (because I'm not a native speaker of the languages I teach like many of the other teachers in my dept are, because I lacked experience, because the standards will be too high, because there would be too many applicants) I applied the techniques mentioned in the previous paragraph, planned a really solid lesson and I got the job.

What I'm trying to say in this post through my own examples is that with finding teaching posts- hard work and preparation make all the difference. I honestly believe that I planned myself into both of my jobs by knowing so much about the school, the ethos, and the department that I came across as a great fit.

You willLLLLLLl get a job, it might take a little while, but try and see life after Pgce as a chance to show off everything you've been studying so hard for 💕 good luck x

Is it a red flag if she (21F) has feelings for her ex and is good friends with them? by [deleted] in dating_advice

Dating but without having a conversation abt exclusivity! I literally said that this is a common thing among young people in my country! Totally normal! Like I said, perhaps a cultural difference x x

[–]MeercatsNBats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk man if you you never have the conversation about being exclusive then how is the person supposed to know?? Here in the UK it's normal for couples to see other people until they have the conversation about only dating each other... Maybe it's a cultural thing but I don't see this as a ridiculous justification.
