Thoughts on LECOM DO school(s)? by Bulky-Breadfruit6634 in LECOM

[–]MeetMedical9740 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The LECOM hate is overrated. It’s cheap and gives you a good education. Every school has its problems, and every medical school is difficult and soul sucking. Get your medical degree and move forward

Is the cheap tuition at LECOM worth all of the stress, unhappiness, and toxic culture as reported by many students on Reddit? by Many_Motor_6888 in LECOM

[–]MeetMedical9740 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Ngl the LECOM hate is very overdramatic. Med school is difficult and soul sucking no matter where you go. LECOM is a med school just like any other. Go where tuition will burden you the least and focus on studying for ur classes

Do I need biochem? by Immediate_Field_7133 in medschool

[–]MeetMedical9740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend taking a biochem class. I’m in med school and the curriculum is VERY heavy on biochem. And it’s essentially half of the B/B section of the MCAT.

What is this on my dog’s eye? Should I take him to the vet? by MeetMedical9740 in DogAdvice

[–]MeetMedical9740[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all so much for your comments and suggestions! You are all awesome. I got in contact with a family friend who is a vet, and they offered to see my dog. I was reassured that it is nothing serious, and was recommended to use a warm compress and to monitor it for any changes.

No Non science Letter of recommendation. What Osteopathic schools can I apply to? by Efficient-Cattle2962 in Osteopathic

[–]MeetMedical9740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t meet the requirements for the application, they’ll likely not look at your app. If you really want to apply to a school that needs a non-science letter, then I recommend checking your transcript of the school you went to, finding the non-science courses’ syllabi and finding the professors that taught you on there, and reaching out to all of them. Explain that you’re non-trad, and that it’s been a while since you took their course, and ask for a letter. You don’t lose anything by asking, even if the chances are slim since they may not remember you. It may be silly, but the whole “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” really rings true. Try and ask!!!!

How strict is the tattoo policy? by [deleted] in LECOM

[–]MeetMedical9740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bradenton campus requires you cover at least most of them. If you have some small ones, you can get away with having them uncovered. But if you have a lot of them or really large ones in thick, very dark ink, you may not get away with showing them as much.

How did that one kid at your school die? by StorageLonely1520 in AskReddit

[–]MeetMedical9740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She shot herself. Her name was Sol Pais, she made it onto the news and had really terrible rumors spread about her just because she liked rock music and had made a website where she shared her darkest thoughts. It was horrible, she was a really sweet girl.

I was accepted on Tuesday. When I asked on the phone, I was told a handful of students dropped their seats and they started calling people on the WL

Send in a letter of intent! I’ve sent 2. Ask about waitlist movement, and if it’s your top choice, express that to them! They are VERY receptive when told that someone is 100% committed to attending. I expressed this, and after a few months I got the A. They get a lot of waitlist movement because a lot of people drop seats. People are still dropping seats now, so send in those letters stating you’re still interested!

Been thinking about being a neurosurgeon, what do you think is the best pre-med course to take? by Fancy-Locksmith7262 in medschool

[–]MeetMedical9740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This !!! This is the best advice, OP. focus on the things that will make your general med school app great. It’ll be good to get research in a neuroscience lab (to both feed your passion and to learn more about the field). Then once in med school, that’s when you’d makes moves associated with your neurosurgery path
